Universities defend book accused of fraud

The bestselling book “Three Cups of Tea” has recently come under fire for stretching the bounds of “non-fiction,” but that apparently doesn’t mean universities are willing to remove it from their students’ required reading lists. Robby Soave of the Student Free Press Association writes how a number of American universities still plan to force students to read the discredited work (h/t John Miller): An account of [author Greg] Mortenson’s adventures and humanitarian efforts in the Middle East, Three Cups of Tea was published in 2006 to widespread acclaim. Since then, it has become a favorite of undergraduate reading programs. But according to an April 17 segment on CBS’s 60 Minutes, Mortenson fabricated some of the book’s most gripping moments—including his alleged capture by the Taliban in 1996. Three Cups of Tea was … Read entire article »

“Storms Kill Over 250 Americans In States Represented By Climate Pollution Climate.”

UPDATE: Greg Pollowitz at NRO’s Planet Gore provides some additional information from the climate deniers at FEMA and NOAA, that debunks the ridiculous premise of the original TP post. Question: Why does Think Progress hate science? Via Hot Air, that’s the headline of a post by the smart folks at ThinkProgress — illustrating once again that some people will politicize about anything, even the death of 267-plus Americans: The congressional delegations of these states — Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, Virginia, and Kentucky — overwhelmingly voted to reject the science that polluting the climate is dangerous. They are deliberately ignoring the warnings from scientists. For the rest of our lives, every time a natural disaster strikes anyone, anywhere, conservatives who support lower taxes or less intrusive government will be faulted. (You know, … Read entire article »

AZ Gets State Defense Force Law; Now It’s Time to Act

It sat on her desk for over a week, but yesterday Governor Jan Brewer (R–AZ) finally signed S.B. 1495 into law. The new law takes an important step and allows the governor to mobilize the Arizona State Defense Force (SDF) “for any reason” she sees fit. Arizona’s constitution has long allowed for the creation of […] Read more CompleteAZ Gets State Defense Force Law; Now It’s Time to Act … Read entire article »

Amish Milk: The Latest Target of the Obama Regulatory State

Milk might do a body good, but if it’s unpasteurized milk sold by an Amish farmer across state lines, it’s a whole other story… or at least according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Russia Would ‘Enthusiastically Embrace’ Obama Second Term

From The Moscow Times: Amid growing anxiety over whose name will appear on the 2012 presidential ballot, lawmakers and pundits were quick to welcome the news that one president would certainly stand for re-election next year – Barack Obama. The U.S. president’s announcement, made in an e-mail to supporters Monday, sent many in Moscow praising the achievements of a “reset” in relations that has become a hallmark of both Obama’s and Dmitry Medvedev’s presidencies. “I will be very … Read entire article »

Governor Kasich on Obama: Why Doesn’t He Do His Job?

Ohio Governor John Kasich recently signed controversial Senate Bill 5, which restricted the much-abused collective bargaining power of public sector unions. The bill, similar to what passed in Wisconsin, inspired a similar level of vitriol from the unions and supporters. Obama jumped into the conversation earlier this week saying “public employees should not be blamed for a financial crisis they had nothing to do with and sacrifices should be shared in tough economic times.” … When Kasich was asked about his thoughts on the President weighing in on what’s happening in Ohio, he didn’t mince words. “We have balanced our budget, under this budget that we’ve presented, along with preserving the tax cut. The President of the United States has, I think a $3 trillion debt. Why doesn’t he do his job? When … Read entire article »

The View Host Asks 'Where Are the Black People?' While Watching the Royal Wedding

Never mind who wore what, the View’s Sherri Shepherd had another burning question about the Royal Wedding today. ‘Where are the black people?’ the outspoken actress, 44, asked as the panellists as they critiqued Prince William and Kate Middleton’s ceremony. The star said she had earlier searched through the footage of guests at Westminster Abbey. ‘Audrey Jones our producer was looking for the black people in the wedding and we found our Rosa Parks moment, because we were like ‘where are the black people’?’ she said. ‘It was like where’s Waldo, where are the black people?’ she added.   Read more CompleteThe View Host Asks 'Where Are the Black People?' Krauthammer: It's Funny to Hear Liberals Talk About How Awful It Is to Delegitimize a President After What They Did to Bush

By Noel Sheppard Charles Krauthammer on Friday perfectly elucidated the media’s hypocrisy concerning their avid defense of Barack Obama against attacks from Donald Trump and the birthers. As the discussion on PBS’s “Inside Washington” turned to the President finally revealing his birth certificate, and liberals on the panel including the Washington Post’s Colby King expressed disgust about how the White House resident was being treated, Krauthammer marvelously replied, “I think it’s somewhat amusing to hear people on the left talking about how awful it is to delegitimize a president when they spent half a decade saying that George Bush stole the election”   Read more CompleteKrauthammer: It's Funny to Hear Liberals Talk About How Awful It Is to Delegitimize a President After What They Did to Bush … Read entire article »

Indiana Gov. Daniels to Sign Bill Defunding Planned Parenthood

Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels said Friday he will sign restrictive abortion legislation, making Indiana the first state to cut off all government funding for Planned Parenthood and boosting Daniels’ credentials among social conservatives as he considers whether to run for president. Daniels said he supported the abortion restrictions from the outset and that the provision added to defund abortion providers did not change his mind. He said women’s health, family planning and other services will remain available. “The principle involved commands the support of an overwhelming majority of Hoosiers,” Daniels said in a statement announcing his intention to sign the bill when it arrives on his desk in about a week. Planned Parenthood of Indiana said in a statement it would file an injunction to “try to halt this alarming erosion of public … Read entire article »
