Reporter roughed up by Bachmann‘s ’Mafia people’

ABC’s Brian Ross was chasing Michele Bachmann to get an on-the-record comment after her speech in South Carolina on Tuesday when things turned unexpectedly physical for the reporter. Ross was throwing out questions to the presidential candidate about her reported debilitating migraines as she made her her way out of the event. Bachmann, who read a statement on the issue earlier at the speaking engagement, ignored the question several times. Time magazine’s Michael Crowley, who was also at the event, reports: When Ross made a beeline for the white SUV waiting to carry Bachmann away, two Bachmann men pounced on him, grabbing and pushing him multiple times with what looked to me like unusual force. [...] Ross was finally able to break away and lob his question at Bachmann … Read entire article »

Behind the ‘Gang of 6’ proposal

Get ready, folks.  Word in Washington is that a bipartisan consensus may be forming around a proposal put forth by the Senate’s infamous “Gang of 6.”  President Obama has hailed the group’s proposal and as of now, it may be the most plausible blueprint for a compromise by the debt ceiling deadline on August 2.  But what would this plan mean for the country? As American Spectator’s Joseph Lawlor points out, the Gang of 6 plan is a far cry from Republicans’ favored “Cut, Cap & Balance” and may be more appealing for politicians facing reelection in 2012: The plan would only cut about $500 billion immediately, and most of that would be spending already agreed to by all sides: discretionary spending caps, a federal worker pay freeze, and a (gradual) shift … Read entire article »

Bachmann’s so looney she suffers from migraines – and pops pills

So presidential candidate Michele Bachmann suffers migraine headaches. The Daily Caller has all the juicy journalistic details in a piece breathlessly headlined “Stress-related condition ‘incapacitates’ Bachmann; heavy pill use alleged.” All that’s missing is the exclamation point. “She has terrible migraine headaches. And they put her out of commission for a day or more at a time. They come out of nowhere, and they’re unpredictable,” says an adviser to Bachmann who was involved in her 2010 congressional campaign. “They level her. They put her down. It’s actually sad. It’s very painful.” I have little legitimate reason to be stressed about life, yet I’ve gotten migraines since I was a kid. They can be debilitating and they can last all day. Jeff Tweedy of Wilco once wrote, “As a kid, I did … Read entire article »

Awww: Betty White declines Marine’s YouTube invite

Heartache for Sgt. Ray Lewis, a Marine recruiter currently stationed in Texas who requested the honor of escorting actress Betty White to this fall’s Marine Corps Ball. Unfortunately, Ms. White’s filming schedule conflicts with the timing of the event: “I am deeply flattered and truly appreciate the invitation,” White said in a statement released by her publicist. “As everyone knows, I love a man in uniform … but unfortunately I cannot accept, as I will be taping an episode of ‘Hot in Cleveland.’” The statement ended: “Love, Betty White.” It’s ok; we still love you, Betty! Too much of a good thing is bad

Good points from Thomas Sowell: Life has many good things. The problem is that most of these good things can be gotten only by sacrificing other good things. We all recognize this in our daily lives. It is only in politics that this simple, common sense fact is routinely ignored. In politics, there are not simply good things but some special Good Things — with a capital G and capital T — which are considered always better to have more of. Many of the things advocated by environmental extremists, for example, are things that most of us might think of as good things. But, in politics, they become Good Things whose repercussions and costs are brushed aside as unworthy considerations. Video: Dems use Ronald Reagan to fight GOP on debt debate

Democrats… suddenly the party of Ronald Reagan? House Democrats today released this new ad featuring The Gipper delivering his Presidential Radio Address on September 26, 1987.  I’ll admit, it’s a smart political tactic using conservatives’ favorite president to support their own case in the debt debate.  However, it’s probably also worth noting that in the same address which fought back against pressure from Congress to make debt concessions, Reagan added: For those who say further responsible spending reductions are not possible, they are wrong. For those who say the only choice is undermining our national security at a time when the United States is close to an agreement with the Soviet Union on reducing nuclear weapons, they are wrong. For those who say more taxes will solve our … Read entire article »

Allen West warns of selling U.S. tanks to Egypt

Seems like a reasonable concern: In a letter to Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon on Monday, West wrote: “It has come to my attention that the Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress on July 1, 2011 of a possible foreign military sale to the government of Egypt for 125 M1A1 Abrams tank kits for coproduction and associated weapons, equipment, parts, training and logistical support. “One of the greatest threats to Egyptian stability, as well as to regional stability, is the growing prospect of a new Egyptian government under the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood. If given control of the country, the Muslim Brotherhood would nominate its own candidates and turn Egypt into a radical Islamic state. “America must continue to stand with the Egyptian people and encourage them to build their own democracy … Read entire article »

Sean Bean Death Reel

I’m partial to Mister Bean, though my wife loves Sean Bean. In my house it’s always Sean Bean this and Sean Bean that. When I make Caesar salad my wife will inevitably say, “Sean Bean would have used more garlic” or “Sean Bean prefers shaved Parmesan.” When I turn off the lights I’m sure to hear her say, “Goodnight Sean Bean.” It’s enough to make a man cry – and cry I would, if I hadn’t had my tear ducts removed. I have come to terms with the fact that my wife loves Sean Bean. That’s why I love this compilation of Sean Bean dying a lot: http://youtu.be/zEhtsgu6bJg Read more CompleteSean Bean Death Reel … Read entire article »

Uncle Sam getting pushed off a cliff? It’s possible

A new video ad contends that if we don’t change course “America the Beautiful” will soon become “America the Bankrupt.” Entitlements, out of control spending and impending tax policy changes have the potential to wreak some real havoc. Below, watch as Big Government (a creepy guy in a black suit) wheels (in a literal wheelchair) Uncle Sam to the edge of a cliff with the intention of pushing him off (an analogy that seems all to similar to what we’re seeing happen in our political system today). But, don’t worry. There’s a surprise ending. Watch as the battle for our nation’s fiscal order (and survival) unfolds, below: Read more CompleteUncle Sam getting pushed off a cliff? The truth about deportation

Nine years ago, I published Invasion and have since devoted extensive column, blog, and broadcast space to informing readers about America’s deportation abyss. Most of the politicians in Washington who speak about “comprehensive immigration reform” are still abjectly ignorant about the ins, outs, loopholes, and lax enforcement that characterize our chaotic, security-undermining deportation policies. Borders Bookseller Goes Belly Up, but Save Your Tears

The slow, painful end of Borders bookstores has finally arrived. After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February and taking actions to save the company, the 40-year-old chain with locations across the country will begin liquidation on Friday. All told, 399 stores will close, and 10,700 workers will lose their jobs. For those who enjoyed perusing Borders’s aisles of books, shopping its bargain bins, listening to music, or sipping coffee in its cafes, the company’s closing will come as a loss, but its end is a story of how … More Read more CompleteBorders Bookseller Goes Belly Up, but Save Your Tears … Read entire article »
