Priebus on Possible Paul Ryan Nomination: "I Think Our Candidate Is Someone Who Is Running"

JAKE TAPPER, CNN’S “STATE OF THE UNION”: Former Bush adviser Karl Rove said this week that a fresh face might be the thing that could give Republicans a chance in November. John Boehner has said that that person should be Paul Ryan, your fellow Wisconsinite. From the standpoint of the party rules, is there a possibility that House Speaker Paul Ryan could end up as the Republican nominee maybe on the fourth or fifth ballot, something of a consensus candidate? REINCE PRIEBUS, REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE: No, because, number one, he doesn’t want to do it. And I know Paul very well. And, you know, he doesn’t seek out these things. He’s one of the unique people in Washington where, you know, his ego is, like, not even there. And he’s … Read entire article »

Trump Clarifies Abortion Comment: I Was Asked A Hypothetical About Abortion Being Outlawed

Donald Trump appears on Face the Nation to address comments he made about abortion earlier in the week about regulating abortion. In a town hall event moderated by MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Trump said women should face “some sort of punishment” if abortion was outlawed. Trump later clarified that he would want the doctor held accountable for performing an illegal procedure, not the woman. Trump told Face the Nation moderator John Dickerson he gave the controversial answer because he was asked a hypothetical question about an illegal activity. Trump’s full interview on FTN below. Transcript: JOHN DICKERSON, “FACE THE NATION” MODERATOR: There’s been a lot of commentary this week that this has been the worst week in your campaign. A lot of people want to stop you. Sanders: People Ask Me To Go After Clinton For FBI Investigation And Foundation Money, But I Won't

CNN’s Jake Tapper presses Sen. Bernie Sanders on the use of surrogates to attack Hillary Clinton. Sanders was specifically asked to respond to actress Rosario Dawson unloading on Hillary Clinton for her private server. The Democratic presidential candidate said while he doesn’t agree with everything said by his supporters he will not engage Clinton on “her FBI investigation” and Clinton Foundation money. Transcript, via CNN’s State of the Union: SANDERS: We have many, many surrogates who say many, many things. Many of these surrogates do not agree with everything I say. And I do not agree with every approach and everything that they say. And that’s the simple reality. What we have done — and, by the way, there are a lot of people who say, Bernie, why don’t you go … Read entire article »

Chuck Todd to Priebus: Who Chooses The Republican Nominee, Primary Voters Or The Delegates?

Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd grills RNC chairman Reince Priebus on who actually chooses the Republican party’s presidential nominee. CHUCK TODD: Well, it’s interesting you say the voters and the delegates. Who does choose the nominee here? Is it Republican primary voters? Is it the Republicans, or is it the delegates? REINCE PRIEBUS: If there’s one interviewer that probably knows the rules better than anyone, it’s you, Chuck. But I’ll answer the question anyway. CHUCK TODD: Well, you know what I mean. But the principle of it. The principle. REINCE PRIEBUS: Yeah, no, I understand. CHUCK TODD: Is it the party’s voters that are picking this nominee or the party’s delegates, which is a different set of people? REINCE PRIEBUS: The nomination is won on the floor in Cleveland by the majority of delegates that … Read entire article »

Sanders: Clinton "Is Getting Very Nervous," Because "I Am The Strongest Candidate"

Bernie Sanders responds to criticism from Sec. Clinton that he is not a “lifelong” Democrat. BERNIE SANDERS: Well, my response is I think the Secretary is getting very nervous, that poll after poll shows us doing much better against Trump than she is. The last CNN Poll had us up by 20 points. Here in Wisconsin, I was 19 points ahead of Trump, also a significant margin better than she is. So what we are saying is I believe I am the strongest candidate to take on the Republicans and the fact that I have been the longest serving Independent in the history of the United States makes my candidacy even strong. You’ve got a lot of Independents out there. So I think we can get virtually all of the Democratic … Read entire article »

Hillary Clinton: FBI Has Not Contacted Me For An Interview

CHUCK TODD: But this gets to something else I think he’s getting at, secrecy. And the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had a tough editorial against you this week. It said this of your candidacy: “Her horrible track record on transparency raises serious questions for open government under a Clinton administration–so serious, we believe they may disqualify her from public office. “Regardless of Clinton’s excuses, the only believable reason for the private server in her basement was to keep her emails out of the public eye by willfully avoiding Freedom of Information laws … We encourage voters to think long and hard about the record when choosing the next president.” This issue of secrecy, or the accusation that you’re secretive, has followed you for quite some time. Is there any way … Read entire article »

Trump Insider Roger Stone: We Need Supporters To Come To Cleveland, "Peaceful, Nonviolent Protests"

Trump insider Roger Stone says that GOP party bosses are plotting to steal the nomination from Donald, and he calls on hundreds of thousands of Trump supporters to join him in Cleveland at the Republican Party convention to protest. “Take a bus! Hitchhike! Carpool! Take a train! Fly, if you can afford it.” ROGER STONE: Go to Cleveland. Come to Cleveland. Don’t let the big steal go forward without massive protest. Peaceful, nonviolent protest. So, as they used to say, don’t wait for orders from headquarters. Ride to the sound of the guns. I don’t mean to imply violence on that. I mean: Ride to where the action will be. We have to let the Republican bosses and the kingmakers and the insiders and the lobbyists know that we’re not going … Read entire article »

Reince Priebus on RNC Convention: "Nothing Will Get Stolen From Anyone," "There Will Be Cameras"

STEPHANOPOULOS: You just heard John Kasich there saying the convention, the contested convention, would be magical. But I wonder what you make of this call from Roger Stone, an ally of Donald Trump, putting out a call for days of rage protest in Cleveland? REINCE PRIEBUS, CHAIR, RNC: Well, you know, nothing can get stolen from anyone. We have rules in place that if someone — if a candidate gets to 1,237 delegates, those delegates are bound. They — and they will vote that way on the floor, and if they don’t vote that way on the floor, which they will, but if they don’t, the secretary will read the vote as if they were bound regardless. So this — we will know where everyone stands … Read entire article »

John Kasich: When Delegates Enter The Convention, "Something Magical Happens To Them"

John Kasich tells Stephanopoulos on ABC’s ‘This Week,’ that the possibility of a Republican convention where the rules are changed before the start to allow him to be nominated would be “magical.” “I’m going to get there, George,” the Ohio governor said. “We’ll go together, and I’ll be running and you’ll be reporting. We’ll be there.” GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: I thought you liked Justin Bieber. But you say it’s going to fun but we just heard from Roger Stone, an ally of Donald Trump, who says they’re going to be organizing what he calls "Days of Rage†protests to prevent the convention from stealing the nomination from Donald Trump. Are you worried about what could be a violent protest or days of great unrest in your home state? KASICH: Well, George, you know … Read entire article »

Chuck Todd to Hillary Clinton: "When Or If Does An Unborn Child Have Constitutional Rights?"

Hillary Clinton is asked about her position on abortion and whether she believes an unborn child has constitutional rights by Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd. Earlier in the interview on this Sunday’s broadcast of the NBC public affairs program Clinton called abortion a constitutional protection. “When or if does an unborn child have constitutional rights?” NBC’s Todd asked Clinton. “Well, under our laws currently, that is not something that exists,” Clinton answered. “The unborn person doesn’t have constitutional rights. Now, that doesn’t mean that we don’t do everything we possibly can in the vast majority of instances to, you know, help a mother who is carrying a child and wants to make sure that child will be healthy, to have appropriate medical support.” “It doesn’t mean that you don’t do everything possible … Read entire article »

In the wake of a media firestorm surrounding Donald Trump’s comments on abortion, John Kasich tells "This Week with George Stephanopoulos†that he hopes Roe vs. Wade is overturned int he future. “And then, you know, it will be up to the states to decide how they want to proceed. It’ll be up to them to figure out what they want to do.” JOHN KASICH (R), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Well, George, I hope they do repeal Roe v. Wade and then, you know, it will be up to the states to decide how they want to proceed. It’ll be up to them to figure out what they want to do and that’s precisely what we would do.
