Professors, Students Demand College Start Fund for Illegal Immigrants

Cornell University students hosted a protest to demand the college provide funds for all illegal immigrant students. The protest, organized by the Cornell Coalition for Inclusive Democracy, drew about 250 students and faculty members, reports Heat Street. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The protesters want the school to provide special funding for all immigrant students, even those not protected by the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive order. “Our endangered community members still lack explicit assurance that the institution that took them in will protect them,” professor Russell Rickford said. “That’s shameful.” The group also wants Cornell to provide on-campus housing and shelter for immigrant students who have been warned from traveling overseas. It wants the college to fight for legislation that protects illegal immigrants. It also called on the campus police to not release … Read entire article »

Trump Signs Revised Travel Ban Targeting ‘Foreign Terrorist Entry’

President Donald Trump on Monday signed a revised version of his executive order to impose temporary travel restrictions on residents of six countries the Obama administration and Congress had designated as posing risks of terrorism. The new order addresses many of the concerns that followed Trump’s announcement of the original directive five weeks ago. Federal courts froze that order, which resulted in confusion and chaos at airports. “The executive order signed by the president protecting the nation from foreign terrorist entry is a vital measure for strengthening our national security,” Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters at a press conference announcing the new order. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); As the administration evaluates how to enhance vetting procedures, Trump’s new order bars for 90 days the issuance of new visas for citizens and … Read entire article »

Kansas City Bombing Scheme Becomes First Terror Plot of 2017

The FBI arrested Robert Lorenzo Hester on Feb. 17 and charged him with planning bombings in Kansas City, Missouri. The FBI said Hester, of Columbia, Missouri, plotted with undercover agents to use pipe bombs, some fitted with nails for maximum damage, to attack a train station and nearby buses. This was the 94th confirmed Islamist-inspired terror plot or attack within the U.S. since Sept. 11, 2011. The FBI said it became aware of Hester, 25, when he showed an affinity for the Islamic State, or ISIS, on social media. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hester made contact with an undercover FBI employee one day before being arrested in relation to an unrelated incident. He had thrown a folded pocket knife through a grocery store window during an argument with his wife, the FBI said, and … Read entire article »

Trump’s Historic Chance to Dismantle the Administrative State

Last month, the Senate voted to use the Congressional Review Act to undo an Obama-era regulation issued by the Interior Department. In response, the director of the department’s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement told Politico, “I believe there’s a good chance that […] a court will overturn Congress’ actions here as an unconstitutional usurpation of the executive branch’s powers.” The constitutional illiteracy of this statement is simply breathtaking—and it would be funny, too, if it weren’t so prevalent within the federal government today. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); How did this happen? Article I of the U.S. Constitution begins, “All legislative power herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States.” And Article II obligates the president and his executive branch to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.” And … Read entire article »

The Beltway Conspiracy to Break Trump By Patrick J. Buchanan

At Mar-a-Lago this weekend President Donald Trump was filled “with fury” says The Washington Post, “mad — steaming, raging, mad.” Early Saturday the fuming president exploded with this tweet: “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” … Read entire article »

Loretta Lynch tells progressives to stay calm and just focus on the next election — JUST KIDDING

**Written by Doug Powers Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch appears to be trying out for a leadership position in The Resistance™: LYNCH: I know that this is a time of great fear and uncertainty for so many people. I know it’s a time of concern for people who see our rights being assailed, being trampled on, and even being rolled back. I know that this is difficult, but I remind you that this has never been easy. We have always had to work to move this country forward to achieve the great ideals of our Founding Fathers. It has been people, individuals who have banded together, ordinary people who simply saw what needed to be done and came together and supported those ideals who have made the difference. They’ve marched, they’ve … Read entire article »

Of course: Public schools to close due to ‘Day Without Women’ protest, Betsy DeVos still expected to show up for work

**Written by Doug Powers Here’s the latest news from the “for the children” side of the aisle that’s always accusing the right of being a threat to a quality public school education: More than 300 public school staff members at Alexandria City, Virginia have requested leave for Wednesday, prompting the school to close its doors. “Given the unusually high number of requests, this may be attributed to the observance of International Women’s Day. This day has also been deemed A Day Without Women. Consequently, ACPS has decided to close schools for students for the day,” Superintendent Alvin Crawley wrote on the system’s website. “This is not a decision that was made lightly,” he added. “The decision is based solely on our ability to provide sufficient staff to cover all our classrooms, and the … Read entire article »
