Colorado ‘Selfie’ Bill Opens the Door to Vote-Buying and Election Fraud

The secret ballot is a fundamental tenet of American democracy. It was implemented in the United States in the late 1800s to counter widespread instances of bribery and intimidation of voters. Both houses of the Colorado Legislature recently passed a bill that is now sitting on Gov. John Hickenlooper’s desk that would allow voters to take “selfies” of their marked ballots. This is a very bad idea that would void the secrecy of our ballots and represents a dangerous and unjustified step backward. By allowing voters to show how they voted, the bill would, in essence, provide a “receipt” that the voter could use to collect an illegal payment for voting for specific candidates, and would open the door to intimidation and threats against voters for not voting a particular way. Good Intentions, Dangerous … Read entire article »

Trump Finds an Unlikely Defender on Wiretapping: Dennis Kucinich

President Donald Trump received some unlikely support this week when Dennis Kucinich, a former congressman and two-time Democrat presidential candidate, said that he had been subject to wiretapping under the Obama administration. “I can vouch for the fact that extracurricular surveillance does occur, regardless of whether it is officially approved,” Kucinich wrote in an op-ed published by Fox News. “I was wiretapped in 2011 after taking a phone call in my congressional office from a foreign leader.” Investigative journalists from The Washington Times played the recording for Kucinich in 2015. “The call had been from Saif el-Islam Qaddafi, a high-ranking official in Libya’s government and a son of the country’s ruler, Moammar Qaddafi,” Kucinich wrote, adding that the phone call had occurred “four years earlier.” When Kucinich, a liberal Democrat, was asked to explain … Read entire article »

The Danger of the Dark Web

The latest WikiLeaks revelations—purportedly revealing CIA hacking tools and techniques—are a reminder of just how vital cybersecurity is. A big area of concern … the so-called Dark Web, a largely hidden online world where some of the most serious crimes are committed. The FBI has dedicated teams to battle cyber criminals, and one of its special agents agreed to give me an introduction to the Dark Web.   Here’s a transcript of my interview with FBI Special Agent Chris Christopherson: Chris Christopherson/FBI Special Agent: We work the national security side and we work the criminal side. Attkisson: FBI Special Agent Chris Christopherson agreed to show us how the Dark Web works, inside the FBI’s first Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory in San Diego. Chris Christopherson: So if you think about this iceberg here, as content up on the internet, the … Read entire article »

Obamacare Replacement Bill Would Reduce Number Insured as Well as Deficits, CBO Says

The Obamacare replacement plan offered by House Republican leadership eventually would lower health insurance premiums and reduce federal budget deficits, although 24 million Americans no longer would have coverage, the Congressional Budget Office says. In a report estimating the cost of the plan, released late Monday, the CBO projects the American Health Care Act would reduce budget deficits by $337 billion from 2017 to 2026. About 14 million more Americans would not have health insurance if the House bill is enacted, compared with how many have it now under Obamacare, the report says. A total of 24 million more would be uninsured by 2026. CBO’s “scoring” of the costs of the Obamacare replacement plan cleared it of one hurdle: Under the budget tool Republicans are using to pass the bill, called reconciliation, the legislation must save the … Read entire article »

Trump Meets With Obamacare ‘Victims’

On Monday, President Donald Trump met with Americans described by the White House as “victims” of Obamacare to hear their stories. In what the administration called a “listening session,” Trump referred to the Affordable Care Act as the “very, very failed and failing Obamacare law” as he heard from citizens in the Roosevelt Room who have had negative experiences with the health care law, according to the White House press pool. “We paid $8,000 for five months and were never able to use it,” Georgia woman Brittany Ivey told Trump. Ivey, who said she left her full-time job in 2009 to focus on her children, claimed she had a family plan for four that went up by 102 percent. After she lost insurance that had been provided by her husband’s employer, Ivey said … Read entire article »

To Make the AHCA Better, the GOP Has to Practice Bipartisanship Within Itself by Lawrence Kudlow

The good should never be the evil of the perfect. House Speaker Paul Ryan’s health care bill is a very good first step. Massive repeal of Obamacare tax hikes will be great for the economy. Getting rid of the Affordable Care Act mandates will be great for health care. Private-sector competition and choice are always better than government-run anything. The Republican Party has to practice bipartisanship within itself. … Read entire article »

Republicans Favor Major Cut in Corporate Tax Rate, Democrats Don’t

The United States has the highest corporate tax rate in the developed world, but most voters don’t know that. Voters tend to see cutting the tax rate as an economic plus but are evenly divided over President Trump’s plan to cut it by over half. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 48% of Likely U.S. Voters are aware that the tax rate on corporations in the United States is higher than in most other nations. Twenty-three percent (23%) incorrectly think the U.S. corporate tax rate is lower than in most nations, while nine percent (9%) say it’s about the same. One-in-five (21%), however, are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.) (Want a free daily e-mail update? If it’s in the news, it’s in our polls).  Rasmussen … Read entire article »

The dirty Dem dogs of disruption

The dirty Dem dogs of disruption by Michelle MalkinCreators Syndicate Copyright 2017 Here come the hyper-partisan hounds. A new nonprofit called American Oversight launched this week to combat President Trump’s “culture of impunity.” The outfit declared itself “nonpartisan” and claims its crusaders will fight for a “transparent and ethical government.” But like Waylon Jennings once crooned, “Baby, that dog won’t hunt.” These Democrat operatives aren’t interested in accountability. Their mission is to attack, obstruct and destroy their political opponents at all costs. Executive Director and Obama donor Austin Evers is certainly familiar with the “culture of impunity.” He worked as a lawyer at Williams and Connolly — the firm representing Hillary Clinton and the same firm that boasts longtime Clinton consigliere David Kendall, who shepherded scandal-ridden Bill and Hill through Whitewater, Lewinsky-gate and Email-gate. Evers had zero … Read entire article »
