Americans Don’t Want to Get Rid of Valedictorians

More and more schools around the country are eliminating long-standing systems that rank high school students on the level of their academic achievement including the designation of senior class valedictorians and salutatorians. But Americans aren’t eager to embrace the change.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that just 24% of American Adults favor the elimination of systems that rank students on their level of academic achievement. Sixty-one percent (61%) are opposed, while 16% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 American Adults was conducted on March 14-15, 2017 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
