Faith in Economic Future Lessens

Americans were quite optimistic about the economy following President Trump’s inauguration. Two months later, their optimism seems to be waning.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 40% of American Adults now expect the economy to be stronger a year from today, but that’s down from 50% in January, the highest level of optimism in surveying since January 2009. Still, the new finding is higher than regular results since October 2012. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 American Adults was conducted on March 28-29, 2017 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
