Conservatives Skeptical of White House’s Proposed Changes to Obamacare Replacement Bill

Less than two weeks since the collapse of Republicans’ plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, lawmakers and White House officials have revived talks aimed at crafting a health care bill that can make it through Congress. But a new pitch from the White House designed to get conservative lawmakers on board, though in its early stages, already has left some conservatives skeptical. “The goal for the Freedom Caucus has always been we want to see a reduction in [health insurance] prices. That’s still the bottom line,” Rep. Dave Brat, R-Va., told The Daily Signal. “We’re open to any package of ideas that gets us to that goal of lower premiums.” “We’re still not quite there yet,” he said. “It’s not a heavy lift, and we always say we’re for free markets. Well, now … Read entire article »

We Can’t Bail Out Social Security Disability Insurance Forever. Here’s a Reform Proposal.

Few things make Americans more upset than a threat to the Social Security program that they have spent years paying into. That is why a Facebook video of Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., raising a point of order against the 2015 budget deal has been viewed more than 76 million times. That vote, taken in the dead of night, would have stopped a $150 billion transfer from the Social Security trust fund to the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) system, which was, and still is, going bankrupt. Some of us in the Senate wanted to reform SSDI and put it on a stable fiscal path. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); But instead, the majority of senators thought it would be easier to steal $150 billion from the Social Security trust fund, thus moving up the date … Read entire article »

All Sitting Supreme Court Justices Have Been Involved With Federalist Society, Labeled a ‘Front’ Group by Democrats

Judge Neil Gorsuch, President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court choice, came under fire from Democrats Monday because of his involvement with the Federalist Society, a conservative legal organization. “I don’t know what Donald Trump’s judicial philosophy [is] as president, but we sure do know the judicial philosophy of the Federalist Society, which was given the responsibility of coming up with a list of nominees to fill the [Antonin] Scalia vacancy on the Supreme Court,” Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said Monday before Gorsuch’s Senate Judiciary Committee vote. A new report, however, released Monday by the conservative nonprofit America Rising Squared, or AR2, shows that all current U.S Supreme Court justices, appointed by both Democrats and Republicans, and not just Gorsuch, have been involved with the Federalist Society. The Federalist Society, established in 1982, was … Read entire article »

What 3 GOP Lawmakers Are Saying About Susan Rice After Bombshell Report

After Bloomberg reported that Susan Rice attempted to unmask identities of President Donald Trump’s associates for their involvement with foreign states, several Republican lawmakers were quick to speak out against the former Obama national security adviser. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said, according to The Daily Caller News Foundation, that Rice should “testify under oath” for her involvement in trying to exposing Trump associates, as their names appeared in raw intelligence reports collected by U.S. intelligence operations. “If [unmasking] is allowed, we shouldn’t be allowing it, but I don’t think [we] should just discount how big a deal it is that Susan Rice was looking at these,” Paul said to reporters on Monday. “And she needs to be asked, ‘Did President Obama ask her to do this? Was this a directive from President Obama?’” Paul added, … Read entire article »

The 2 Cases That Prove Neil Gorsuch Is Right for the Supreme Court

As modern Supreme Court nomination hearings go, Judge Neil Gorsuch’s were surprisingly uneventful. One of his judicial decisions that drew fire is Hobby Lobby v. Burwell. That case determined whether the Religious Freedom Restoration Act should prevent the federal government from imposing the Affordable Care Act’s regulatory contraceptives mandate on a particular family-owned business contrary to its religious principles. Gorsuch had ruled “yes,” and the Supreme Court agreed. Several senators challenged Gorsuch’s decision and suggested that his vote for religious liberty was a vote against women’s access to reproductive health.  Gorsuch comprehensively explained how Congress’ overwhelmingly bipartisan law and the facts of the case directed the outcome. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., told Elle magazine after the hearings that the Hobby Lobby decision is “disqualifying” for Gorsuch’s Supreme Court bid, because he “decided that a corporation’s religious … Read entire article »

The Border Buildup

The battles over how to pay for President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall are just getting started, but the administration is already calling for proposals from companies who would build it. The wall is just one part of the White House plan to stop illegal immigrants crossing the southern border. There’s also going to be a hiring spree, with thousands of new Border Patrol agents and immigration officers added to the federal workforce. It’s not the first time this has been tried. I recently heard a cautionary tale from James Tomsheck, former head of internal affairs at Customs and Border Protection. >>>Find out when and where you can watch “Full Measure” The following is from my interview with Tomsheck: Attkisson: What is the potential downside of doing mass hirings all at once? Retiring Staffer Claims EPA Employees Were ‘Insulted’ by Trump’s Recent Visit

A retiring Environmental Protection Agency employee said career staff were “frankly insulted” when President Donald Trump visited agency headquarters to sign an executive order rolling back global warming policies. Michael Cox, a retiring EPA staffer who worked on global warming programs, wrote in a letter to EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt that it “was beyond comprehension that an administration could be so arrogant and callous.” Trump visited EPA headquarters in Washington, D.C., in late March to sign an … Read entire article »

52% Say Clintons Should Be Part of Russia Probe

Voters are closely divided on the importance of Congress investigating whether Russia interfered with the last election, but if it does, they think the Clintons’ ties to the Russians should be part of the probe. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 50% of Likely U.S. Voters think Congress should expand its investigation of any possible ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. Forty-five percent (45%) say Congress’ time would be better spent dealing with economic and other policy issues instead. (To see survey question wording, click here.) The Northwestern University Rape Outbreak That Wasn’t

The Northwestern University Rape Outbreak That Wasn’t by Michelle MalkinCreators Syndicate Copyright 2017 Campus feminists whipped up a Category-5 frenzy over sexual assault allegations at a Northwestern University fraternity in February. But last week, the school’s Vice President for Student Affairs Patricia Telles-Irvin was forced to muster up her best impression of “Saturday Night Live’s” classic foot-in-mouther, Emily Litella. Neeeeever miiiiind. Picture Telles-Irvin squinting and grimacing sheepishly as she wrote an update on her breathless bulletin “that four female students attending an event at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house were possibly given a date-rape drug, and two of these students believed they were sexually assaulted.” Before I reveal the substance of her update, let me note that shrieking protests ensued after that initial alert. Tears flowed. Demands escalated. Northwestern’s student government association called for SAE’s … Read entire article »
