How to Talk Taxes in Simple Terms

If you’re in need of a great dinner party topic, try taxes. We pay taxes, we complain about paying taxes, and we admit to not understanding the complicated code that dictates how much we pay. Sounds like we have a lot in common, so let’s chat. In anticipation of Tax Day next week, and Capitol Hill’s next item on its to-do list—tax reform—there is no better time to defend conservative values and the free-market approach. Here are a few suggestions to navigate the wonky waters and have a civil conversation about tax reform. Common Ground (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Common ground is easy to find because EVERYONE pays taxes—income, sales, property, etc. Most agree that we have to pay taxes as part of our civic duty, but most also agree that it’s a complicated process no … Read entire article »

Hefty Drop in Border Arrests a Credit to Trump’s Enforcement of US Law

The month of March brought with it the lowest number of apprehensions along the U.S. southern border since at least the year 2000. This decrease can be credited to the strict enforcement policies that have been put in place since President Donald Trump took office, coupled with the now-credible threat of deportation that illegal immigrants face. In March of 2000, there were 220,032 illegal immigrants apprehended trying to enter the United States illegally. Over the years since the year 2000 (the first year that monthly statistics are available), the number of apprehensions on the southwest border has been in an overall decline, despite fluctuations that have occurred over the years. Seasonal fluctuations occur every year, but in February and March of this year, the dramatic decrease of apprehensions has captured the attention of … Read entire article »

Our Three Presidents Born in 1946 By Michael Barone

With the inauguration of Donald Trump this year, we have now had, for the first time in our history, three American presidents who were born in the same year. There have been three pairs of presidents born in the same year — the very dissimilar John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson, in 1767; Richard Nixon and his surprise successor, Gerald Ford, in 1913; and Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush, in 1924. … Read entire article »

EPA bureaucrats’ fitness to battle climate change takes another hit as Scott Pruitt axes redundant gym memberships

**Written by Doug Powers We’ll have to wait and see how the MSM spins this into a “Mother Earth hardest hit” kind of a story, but I’m sure they’ll find a way: Pruitt was on “Fox and Friends,” where he was asked about documents released Wednesday that show EPA employees spent more than $15,000 on gym memberships outside of the free services they were already being given. “Well, the gym memberships ended yesterday, it was quite something to hear about that,” Pruitt said. He said the agency is investigating the matter, saying “it was the previous administration that granted those gym memberships,” which “were rather expensive.” “It was something that needed to end.” The gym payments were disclosed by the conservative group Americans for Tax Reform. A receipt from the purchase showed that the EPA … Read entire article »
