The Insane Punishment a School Gave a Teen Over a Water Gun

What is the appropriate punishment for a high school student found on campus in possession of a water gun? The Autauga County Board of Education, which covers communities near Montgomery, Alabama, decided that a 16-year-old girl with a water gun was in violation of the board’s firearms policy. So Sara Allena “Laney” Nichols received a one-year expulsion. According to a report in the Montgomery Advertiser, Laney explained that she acquired the water pistol “as a joke” from a male classmate in a school hallway at  Prattville High School. The school’s security cameras captured footage of Laney holding the toy gun, but not of the male student holding it at any time. He received no punishment. Laney said she put the water pistol in her backpack and then, the same day, on the back seat … Read entire article »

US Falling Behind on Trade, While Japan and EU Thrive

European Union and Japanese leaders recently met in Brussels to further negotiations for a free trade agreement. As the EU and Japan work together to boost their economic, political, and security ties, sentiments in the United States seem to be turning away from free trade in favor of protectionism. President Donald Trump has fueled anti-trade sentiment in the U.S. by promoting policies like “Buy American, Hire American.” The United States role in forcing G20 financial ministers to drop their pledge to protect global free trade further amplifies the administration’s protectionist attitude. The World Trade Organization stated in a recent press release that global trade growth is slowing dramatically, a serious concern. Global trade has grown at the slowest pace since the 2008 financial crisis. The World Trade Organization reported that last year’s … Read entire article »

After State Department Snub, Senators Look to ‘Other Means’ to Investigate Tax Dollars Propping Up Soros Work

This article has been corrected and updated since publication. Details about changes are at the end of article. Republican senators could investigate U.S. tax dollars funding liberal billionaire George Soros’ networks abroad “through other means” if the Trump administration’s State Department doesn’t provide answers. Six GOP senators wrote Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in March to ask for a State Department probe into how the federal grants are being used by Soros-funded Open Society Foundations, specifically in Macedonia, to promote progressive causes and undermine conservative and moderate political leaders in those countries. The State Department Bureau of Legislative Affairs responded not by addressing the question of a probe, but defending the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID. Sens. Mike Lee of Utah, James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Ted Cruz of Texas, Bill Cassidy … Read entire article »

There Is Time to Reverse Obama Census Proposal That Promotes Group Identity Politics

There are only 10 days left to comment on one of the most important early challenges in the young Trump administration: proposals to further balkanize America through the 2020 census. This poison pill was left behind by the Obama administration in its last few days in office. On Sept. 30, an interagency group proposed to the Office of Management and Budget two changes that would create new ethnic cleavages and work to preserve existing ones. The Obama people just assumed that the Clinton administration would just rubber-stamp these changes. Then the Nov. 8 election happened. Now the Trump administration is asking Americans to comment on whether we really want to do this by commenting here. For conservatives who care about promoting a united country with a national purpose, and who want to put … Read entire article »

What’s in the New Obamacare Deal That Could Unite Conservatives, Centrists

Conservative and centrist Republicans in the House are working on a deal that some say could unite the two factions and attract enough votes to pass the stalled bill to repeal and replace Obamacare. But amid increased pressure from the White House to move forward with the plan to unravel the 2010 health care law, some conservatives have questions about the changes. News of the deal comes as President Donald Trump nears his 100th day in office, and just days before lawmakers return to Washington, D.C., to hash out the details of a bill funding the government. Brokered by Tuesday Group Co-chairman Tom MacArthur, R-N.J., and House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., the “MacArthur Amendment” offers concessions to the centrist and conservative wings of the GOP, which opposed the House GOP’s bill … Read entire article »

State Department Confirms Iran Compliant With Nuclear Deal, but Warns Tehran Still on Notice

With a new White House, many have wondered about the fate of the 2015 nuclear agreement made between the Obama administration and Iran. The Trump administration’s stance on the agreement became a little clearer on Tuesday when the administration notified Congress that Iran is complying with the terms of the agreement, and that the United States would therefore extend the sanctions relief granted to Iran as part of that agreement. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, in a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, wrote that Iran remained compliant with the agreement, but that the administration was concerned about Tehran’s support for terrorism and is reviewing whether to continue suspending sanctions, as required under the deal. Congress mandated that the State Department must notify it every 90 days about Iran’s compliance with its nuclear … Read entire article »

This Easy Fix Will Create New Flexibility for American Workers

So-called “comp time” is commonplace for government workers, but not so much among low-income workers in the private sector. The reason? The government prohibits it. By law, all salaried employees who make less than $23,660 per year are subject to overtime rules. This means employers must pay them time-and-a-half for any hours beyond 40 hours in a given week, even if the employee would prefer to accumulate time-and-a-half in paid leave to use in the future. Unlike private employees, government employees can trade overtime hours for comp time. If an employee works 45 hours one week, he can choose to trade that overtime for 7.5 hours of paid leave. Alabama Rep. Martha Roby, who chairs the House subcommittee on workforce protections, thinks all workers should be free to receive comp time if that’s what … Read entire article »

Key Players in the French Presidential Election

Key Players in the French Presidential Election

France is only a few days out from the first round of its presidential elections—a contest that could go down to the wire. The election on Sunday features several key issues of concern to French voters, among them being terrorism and the failure to assimilate immigrants into French society. This week’s foiled terror plot, planned to coincide with the election, is a vivid reminder of the ongoing threat French citizens face. In addition to terrorism, a sluggish … Read entire article »

Earth Day horror! Bill Nye upset CNN’s panel included somebody who disagrees with him

**Written by Doug Powers This guy wetting himself and getting his bow tie in a wad over any challenge whatsoever to his tightly held religious belief is simply hilarious: TV personality Bill Nye criticized CNN on New Day Saturday for letting a skeptic of man-made climate change participate in a panel discussion. “I will say, much as I love CNN, you’re doing a disservice by having one climate change skeptic, and not 97 or 98 scientists or engineers concerned about climate change,” Nye contended. Nye appeared with May Boeve of the green action group 350.org and Princeton University physics professor William Happer, who has downplayed the impact of carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. So despite the two-to-one slant in favor of the environmentalists, the former PBS host wasn’t satisfied. […] Nye then retorted with … Read entire article »

MSNBC’s Maddow spots REAL cause of Venezuela crises (Clue from Captain Obvious: Rhymes with ‘grump’)

**Written by Doug Powers MSNBC has certainly managed to provide the progressive left with a narrative about the implosion in Venezuela: I for one was shocked — No blame for climate change? Is this even more embarrassing than Maddow’s self-inflicted beclowning on Trump’s taxes? You make the call: “There have been weeks and weeks and weeks of rioting and violent protests,” says Maddow. “And now today, Venezuelans are enraged anew by this brand new FEC filing from the White … Read entire article »

Cute: ‘Old school journalists’ concerned Gayle King jeopardized MSM objectivity by partying with Obamas

**Written by Doug Powers Among those spotted recently on billionaire David Geffen’s superyacht were Bruce Springsteen, Tom Hanks, the Obamas, Oprah Winfrey and her longtime friend Gayle King, who is a co-host of “CBS This Morning.” Supposedly there are “old-school journalists” who are concerned King’s jeopardizing their industry’s objectivity cred: A source told Page Six on Thursday that CBS journalists are “pissed and raving mad” at King for vacationing with the Obamas while she anchors a news program that covers the White House. “The ‘Capital J’ journalists are pissed and raving mad that she was on a yacht with the Obamas over the weekend. The old-school people were talking about it. She shouldn’t be doing that,” the source said. “She’s an anchor of a news program that covers the White House. You’re held … Read entire article »
