These Regulations Could Incriminate Your Business Without You Knowing It. How Congress Can Bring Reform.

It’s nearly 100 days into the presidency of Donald Trump, and so far he has begun to make good on his campaign promise to curtail overregulation. That should continue for regulations of the harshest variety: arcane rules whose violation is a federal crime. The president’s efforts began in January, when he issued his first executive order designed to control regulatory costs and stem the seemingly endless flow of regulations being pumped out by federal bureaucrats. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); A month later, he signed another executive order to create a regulatory reform task force within each agency. The president has since taken further targeted actions to lessen the regulatory yoke borne by Americans. The narrative dominating the media this week has been the success or failure of President Donald Trump’s first 100 days. But at the Federal Communications Commission, there is no question that change is afoot. On Wednesday, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai revealed his most important change yet: eliminating the spectacularly nonsensical “net neutrality” rules imposed by President Barack Obama’s FCC in 2015. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The 2015 rules deemed internet service providers such as Verizon and Comcast to be “common carriers” under the 80-year-old Communications Act. This allowed the FCC to subject those companies to meticulous FCC control over how they provide service—specifically, net neutrality rules requiring providers to treat all internet transmissions equally, even if the sender or consumer would prefer customized service. Not surprisingly, investment in broadband networks subsequently declined, and innovation—such as … Read entire article »

**Written by Doug Powers Where I am there’s no shortage of lightning in the area at the moment to help zap this Sunday open thread into existence: (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Just a couple things to kick it off… At last night’s Trump-free White House Correspondents Dinner, Carl Bernstein inadvertently helped describe why so much of the MSM has managed to make itself a lightning rod for disdain: The “especially now” addendum that came into existence on January … Read entire article »
