DC School Choice Takes Center Stage at the White House

President Donald Trump signaled his support for education choice at a Wednesday event celebrating the achievements of charter school students and school voucher recipients in the nation’s capital. It was an honor to be at this White House event to watch Trump, along with Vice President Mike Pence and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, applaud the students who participate in the District of Columbia’s school choice programs. School choice participants gathered in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, many of whom utilize the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program, or DCOSP, which provides scholarships to low-income children in the District of Columbia to attend a private school of choice. The DCOSP has increased satisfaction among participating parents, and led to graduation rates 21 percentage points higher than non-scholarship students. Parents said they feel their children … Read entire article »

Net Neutrality Is On the Outs. This Bill Would Repeal It for Good.

Americans love their mobile devices. They want to be able to watch, listen, and play any video whenever they want, wherever they want, and for as long as they want. And they don’t want to pay a fortune for the privilege to do so. For most of the history of the internet, companies have been free to find innovative new ways to meet America’s insatiable demand for data. But progressive activists have never been comfortable with the unregulated nature of the internet. They have always wanted government bureaucrats to have more control over how the internet is managed. After President Barack Obama installed like-minded progressives on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the FCC realized those progressive dreams when they introduced the agency’s first “net neutrality” regulations, called the Open Internet Order of 2010. Those regulations … Read entire article »

The First Step in Revoking Obama’s Land Grab

What is done by executive power can be undone by executive power. Former President Barack Obama began to learn that lesson this Wednesday when President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to conduct a review of all Antiquities Act designations larger than 100,000 acres over the past 30 years. Specifically, the executive order directs Zinke to consider “the requirements and original objectives of the Act, including the Act’s requirement that reservations of land not exceed ‘the smallest area compatible with the proper care and management of the objects to be protected’” and whether “designated lands are appropriately classified under the Act as ‘historic landmarks, historic and prehistoric structures, [or] other objects of historic or scientific interest.’” This wording strongly suggests that Obama’s lame duck decision to designate 1.35 … Read entire article »

Despite the Rhetoric, US Trade Deficit With China Is Not a Big Problem. Here’s Why.

When we discuss international trade and balance of payments, there are two types of accounts. There is the current account, which includes goods and services imported and exported and receives the most political attention. In 2016, the American people imported $479 billion worth of goods and services from Chinese producers, and we sold $170 billion worth of goods and services to Chinese customers. That made for a $309 billion current account deficit. In other words, we purchase more goods and services from Chinese producers than Chinese consumers purchase from American producers. How much of a problem is it when there is a deficit, or a negative imbalance, on current accounts? Let’s look at it. I buy more from my grocer than he buys from me. Our Department of Defense buys more from General Dynamics than … Read entire article »

NOW it’s clear what attracted Hillary Clinton to The Resistance (♪Heyyy, must be the money!♫)

**Written by Doug Powers This week, Hillary Clinton declared her allegiance to “The Resistance”: You’ll be really surprised to know that the Clintons have figured out there’s a “public service opportunity” in the anti-Trump movement: The PAC’s called “Onward Together,” which I’m guessing will end up sending the Clinton bank balance upward: Hillary Clinton, reentering the political fray months after her 2016 campaign loss, will soon launch a political organization aimed at funding “resistance” groups that are standing … Read entire article »
