Jimmy Kimmel’s Moving Story Shows Why Private Charity Trumps Government

In his emotional monologue a few nights ago, Jimmy Kimmel told us a heartbreaking story with a happy ending. His newborn son, Billy, was diagnosed with a heart disease and underwent immediate surgery—which thankfully was successful. Millions have since watched and sympathized with the comedian and his family—crying when he cried, rejoicing when he rejoiced. No one ever wants that diagnosis to be their story. It’s scary, especially when you consider that a solution comes in the form of open heart surgery on the tiniest of chest cavities. Kimmel was right to praise the doctors and nurses at Cedars Sinai Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. They saved his son’s life. The care, technology, and life saving treatment his family experienced was made possible by two, privately funded organizations. Both Cedars Sinai and Children’s … Read entire article »

Why Conservatives Are Unhappy With the Final Spending Bill

The House of Representatives, with 103 Republicans voting no, passed a $1.1 trillion spending package Wednesday to keep the government running through September. Conservative lawmakers who opposed the omnibus spending bill in the 309-118 vote said they’re disappointed the final plan doesn’t reflect that Republicans hold the levers of power in Washington. Republicans hold 238 seats in the House and Democrats hold 193. Four seats are vacant. “I don’t think it’s a win for conservatives or for Americans,” Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, a member of both the Republican Study Committee and the more conservative House Freedom Caucus, told The Daily Signal in an interview before the vote. But Davidson, who voted against the spending bill, did not decry it altogether. “There are things to like in the bill,” Davidson said. “I am glad we … Read entire article »

Conservatives Back Newest Changes to Health Care Bill as House Moves Closer to Obamacare Repeal

House Republicans are inching closer to a vote on the GOP’s revised health care bill following the addition of an amendment that gained the support of two prominent Republicans, and maintained the backing of conservatives. Reps. Fred Upton, R-Mich., and Billy Long, R-Mo., negotiated the terms of the amendment with President Donald Trump during a meeting at the White House on Wednesday. The new measure would add $8 billion in federal funding over five years to help consumers with pre-existing conditions. The pair came out in opposition to the bill repealing and replacing Obamacare earlier this week following the addition of an amendment, revealed last week, that would allow states to opt out of Obamacare’s regulations. That proposal, negotiated by Tuesday Group Co-chairman Tom MacArthur, R-N.J., and House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, … Read entire article »

Trump to Sign Executive Order on Religious Freedom

President Donald Trump will reportedly be celebrating the National Day of Prayer by signing an executive order to boost America’s first freedom. Trump is meeting with religious leaders for a dinner at the White House Wednesday night and is expected to sign the executive order Thursday morning in a Rose Garden event marking the National Day of Prayer. A draft for an executive order was leaked in February to The Nation, a liberal magazine. The leaked order would, among other things, allow the purchase of pro-life health insurance on Obamacare exchanges, and would broadly protect religious expression in all forms, not just the act of worship. Liberal groups immediately attacked the order, claiming it would discriminate against LGBT people and religious minorities. An executive order to reverse previous trends would be welcome news, … Read entire article »

While the Left Ignores Voter Fraud, More Evidence Mounts to Prove Them Wrong

The 2016 elections have passed, but courts still have plenty of work to do sorting out cases of voter fraud throughout the country. Convictions have continued to roll in this spring, and The Heritage Foundation’s voter fraud database is growing longer by the day. This week, we are adding 19 convictions, including cases from Texas, Colorado, and Illinois. These are just the latest convictions. Yet despite the overwhelming evidence, the left prefers to bury its head in the sand and refuses to acknowledge the reality of Voter fraud. Take one example from Kansas. When Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach claimed his first conviction in a voter fraud case against a non-U.S. citizen, opponents of the conviction had no interest in dealing with the facts. Instead, some groups on the left—like the liberal news … Read entire article »

In His First Criminal Cases, Neil Gorsuch Already Mirroring Scalia

It is only Neil M. Gorsuch’s first month as an associate justice on the Supreme Court, but he is already showing just how similar his judicial philosophy is to that of his predecessor, the late Justice Antonin Scalia. In several difficult criminal law cases, Gorsuch has asked sharp questions from the bench and cast one of his first votes to deny a stay of execution—moves that echo Scalia’s approach to the law. The Death Penalty in Arkansas First, … Read entire article »

Resistance™ leader from overwhelmingly Dem district somehow putting ‘career on the line’ to oppose Trump

**Written by Doug Powers Rep. Maxine Waters of California dreams daily of Donald Trump’s impeachment, but she’s also got a helluva sense of humor: Speaking to a gathering organized by EMILY’s List, a pro-choice group run by women, on Wednesday, Waters, D-Calif., said she was “thrilled” by the energy and support she has received from millennials. She said because of her “resistance” to Trump, she has been “adopted” by thousands of millennials, and they call her … Read entire article »
