Pro-Life Advocates Optimistic as One of Their Own Gets Key HHS Job

President Donald Trump’s appointment of a national pro-life leader to serve as the top communicator at the Department of Health and Human Services is great news for the pro-life cause, leaders at associated organizations say. Charmaine Yoest, longtime head of the group Americans United for Life, will assume the responsibilities of assistant secretary for public affairs at the sprawling federal agency. Yoest, 52, will be the principal public affairs adviser to HHS Secretary Tom Price, which puts her in charge of speechwriting, strategic planning, and broadcast and digital communications. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); “We are going to see a radical transformation occur within HHS,” Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, told The Daily Signal in an interview. “I fully expect us [as a society] to talk about … the consequences … Read entire article »

As Senate Mulls Obamacare Repeal, Insurers in 2 States Ask Double-Digit Premium Hikes

Consumers in at least two states face the prospect of double-digit increases in health insurance rates next year, as insurers attempt to price premiums amid uncertainty, including from Congress and President Donald Trump on the fate of Obamacare. Also driving rate increases is the fact that the millions of Americans enrolled on Obamacare’s exchanges are sicker than the general population. Insurance companies selling plans in Maryland and Connecticut have submitted their rate requests for 2018, as other insurers decide whether they’ll continue to offer coverage on Obamacare’s state-run and federal exchanges. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Already, Tennessee and Iowa have seen an exodus of major insurers. Consumers in parts of those states are in jeopardy of having no insurers to choose from on the exchange next year. Humana announced in February that it no … Read entire article »

New Jersey Man’s Confessed Bombing Plan Is 95th Terror Plot in US Since 9/11

While the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, is on the retreat in some parts of the Middle East, its reach in the Western world remains a serious threat. A recent arrest in New Jersey shows just how vigilant the U.S. must remain. In February, police charged Gregory Lepsky, 20, with attempting to provide material support to a known terrorist organization. Authorities said Lepsky confessed to intending to build and detonate a pressure-cooker bomb at an undetermined location in the Manhattan area of New York City. This is the 95th Islamist-inspired terror plot or attack within the U.S. since 2001, and the second confirmed plot of 2017. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Police said they initially arrested Lipsky on Feb. 21 after a family member reported he was threatening to kill the family dog. Fewer Americans Know Someone Out of Work

While most Americans still say they know someone out of a job, that number has fallen to its lowest level yet, as has the number who know someone who has given up on the job market. But even though the national unemployment rate has fallen to a 10-year low, adults aren’t totally convinced the job market is better than it was a year ago. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 54% of American Adults know someone who is out of work and looking for a job. That’s down from 63% in February 2016  and is the lowest level measured in surveys since March 2010.  This finding reached a high of 82% in December 2011. Forty percent (40%) now say they don’t know someone in this situation, a finding … Read entire article »

**Written by Doug Powers And the Shameless Trump-triggered Public Servant of the Week award goes to… US Ambassador to Qatar Dana Shell Smith appeared to criticize President Trump in a tweet on Wednesday, expressing frustration at the news coming out of the United States. “Increasingly difficult to wake up overseas to news from home, knowing I will spend today explaining our democracy and institutions,” Smith said in her tweet. Smith was confirmed by the Senate to her post in 2014 under former President Barack Obama. Well then maybe the poor thing should quit what’s got to be one of the cushiest government gigs there is.
