Immigration Arrests Jump Nearly 40% Under Trump

Immigration arrests climbed yet again in April as federal agents continued to track down both criminal and noncriminal aliens in far greater numbers over the first 100 days of the Trump administration than they did under former President Barack Obama a year ago. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations deportation officers administratively arrested 41,318 illegal immigrants on civil immigration charges between Jan. 22 and April 29, according to agency data released Wednesday. That was a 38 percent jump over the 30,028 arrests made in the same time period in 2016, the final year of the Obama administration. ICE says it has averaged about 400 arrests per day since President Donald Trump signed executive orders in January authorizing stepped-up immigration enforcement. “Agents and officers have been given clear direction to focus on threats … Read entire article »

Trump Impeachment Proceedings Over Obstruction Charge Unlikely to Go Far, Analysts Say

While Democrats cry for impeachment, legal experts are dubious that President Donald Trump’s reported conversation with FBI Director James Comey about his former national security adviser would be an easy case of obstruction of justice. “No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly,” @POTUS says. “I don’t personally think any prosecutor would bring that case,” Ron Hosko, a former assistant FBI director for the bureau’s Criminal Investigative Division, told The Daily Signal, referring to the report that Trump suggested Comey, whom he later ousted, back off investigating Michael Flynn. “Any defense attorney could argue the president was wishing out loud,” Hosko said. “There was no killing a witness, no destruction of evidence.” The New York Times first reported Tuesday on Comey’s purported memo of … Read entire article »

3 Bills Sen. Mike Lee Thinks Could Shift Power ‘Back to the People’

Over the past eight decades, Congress has gradually relinquished its lawmaking role and left it to the administrative state, said a conservative senator at a Capitol Hill event on Wednesday. “Many Americans now feel that they are not in control of their own government,” Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said during an event hosted at the Federalist Society’s fifth annual Executive Branch Review Conference. “The administrative state is designed to be insulated from the will of the people.” The Utah senator said that one way he is working to combat this phenomenon is through an initiative he has started called Article One Project. “Our goal is to develop and advance and hopefully enact an agenda of structural reforms that will strengthen Congress by reclaiming the legislative powers that have been ceded to the … Read entire article »

Who Wins and Who Loses Under These 8 Big Government Policies

It’s clear that many big government policies are creating winners and losers in America. The story has been the same for decades. Government makes friends with a company or an industry, blocks out the competition with regulation, and in some cases gives the company subsidies. Such cronyism is bad for innovators and for consumers. But fewer people realize that it’s also bad for the poor. A recent report from The Heritage Foundation detailed 23 of these big government policies that hurt the poor, and provided concrete ways to address them. Winners and losers from big government policies are not always clear. And yet for some crony policies, the winners and losers are very clear. The winners are a small group of identifiable government cronies, while the losers include people of little or no influence with … Read entire article »

Feminism Drives People to Deny Basic Facts

Feminism Drives People to Deny Basic Facts

The number of foolish statements made by men and women who consider themselves feminists is essentially equal to the number of people who strongly identify as feminists. I write “strongly identify” because if asked, “Are you a feminist?” most women will say yes. They will do so for two reasons. One is that there is no social price paid for saying that one is a feminist, while there can be a huge price paid—on a college campus, for … Read entire article »

Trump’s Expansion of Mexico City Policy Is a Major Victory in Protecting Life

Someday, future generations of Americans will look back on us and wonder how and why such a rich and seemingly enlightened society, so blessed and endowed with the capacity to protect and enhance vulnerable human life, could have instead so aggressively promoted death to children by abortion—both here and overseas. They will note that we prided ourselves on our commitment to human rights, while precluding virtually all protection to the most persecuted minority in the world today—unborn children. And they will demand to know why dismembering a child with sharp knives, pulverizing an infant with powerful suction devices, or chemically poisoning a baby with any number of toxic chemicals failed to elicit in so many so much as a scintilla of empathy, mercy, or compassion for the victims. Abortion is violence against children, … Read entire article »

2 Republicans Battle in Razor-Tight Runoff Primary Ahead of South Carolina June Special Election

In South Carolina’s hotly-contested primary runoff for Mick Mulvaney’s old seat, it looks like the Republican candidates are headed for a recount. Two GOP candidates, Ralph Norman and Tommy Pope, were running to fill a seat vacated by Mulvaney, who now serves as director of Office of Management and Budget. Norman received 50.3 percent of the vote, while Pope received 49.7 percent. “With all precincts reporting, the difference in votes between former lawmaker Ralph Norman and state legislator Tommy Pope on Tuesday night was less than 1 percent, meaning a recount is automatic,” reported the Associated Press. Whoever wins in the recount will compete with Democrat Archie Parnell in a special election held June 20 for South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District. Andrew Roth, vice president of government affairs at the Club for Growth, an … Read entire article »

Senate Democrats Want to Make It Harder for Congress to Remove Regulations

Senate Democrats Want to Make It Harder for Congress to Remove Regulations

Democratic New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker wants to make it more difficult to remove government regulations through congressional review, Reuters reported Tuesday. President Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress have repealed 14 regulations through the Congressional Review Act since Jan. 20, but that is too fast for Booker. The untitled bill introduced Tuesday, temporarily called “A bill to repeal the Congressional Review Act, and for other purposes,” is cosponsored by New Mexico Democratic Sen. Tom Udall. The bill would reinstate the 14 regulations that … Read entire article »

Why North Korea’s Latest Missile Launch Should Worry Washington

Why North Korea’s Latest Missile Launch Should Worry Washington

Saturday marked another breakthrough in North Korea’s broad array of missile programs. Pyongyang successfully launched a new system that could target U.S. bases in Guam. It is now one step closer to an intercontinental ballistic missile that could eventually threaten the continental United States. Pyongyang announced that the Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile flew 490 miles, but at an apogee of 1,300 miles. Experts assess that, had the missile been flown at a normal trajectory, it could have … Read entire article »

Let’s Hit Left-Wing Colleges Where It Hurts. In the Pocketbook.

Parents, taxpayers, and donors have little idea of the levels of lunacy, evil, and lawlessness that have become features of many of today’s institutions of higher learning. Parents, taxpayers, and donors who ignore or are too lazy to find out what goes on in the name of higher education are nearly as complicit as the professors and administrators who promote or sanction the lunacy, evil, and lawlessness. As for the term “institutions of higher learning,” we might start asking: Higher than what? Let’s look at a tiny sample of academic lunacy. During a campus debate, Purdue University professor David Sanders argued that a logical extension of pro-lifers’ belief that fetuses are human beings is that pictures of “a butt-naked body of a child” are child pornography. Clemson University’s chief diversity officer, Lee Gill, who’s paid … Read entire article »

Maxine Waters & Dianne Feinstein lay out current evidence of Trump/Russia collusion

**Written by Doug Powers Rep. Maxine Waters has been among the Dems who are furiously shoveling coal into the furnace that keeps the Trump Impeachment Train chugging along the tracks. Here’s Waters recently laying out the “collusion” case against President Trump, followed by the massive amount of evidence she’s gathered so far (via Jim Geraghty at NRO): Sam Stein, Huffington Post: “But just to be clear, there has been no actual evidence yet.” REP. MAXINE WATERS (D-CA): “No, it has not been.” But Dems shouldn’t panic — maybe Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s found something: WOLF BLITZER, CNN: “The last time we spoke, Senator, I asked you if you had actually seen evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians, and you said to me — and I’m quoting you now — you said, … Read entire article »
