Obama Holdover Colluded With Unions to Pressure Congress on Budget Cuts

An Obama administration appointee with deep ties to labor unions promoted a grassroots campaign to reverse the Trump administration’s proposal to eliminate funding for the federal regulatory board he sits on. The Daily Caller News Foundation obtained emails that show Chemical Safety Board member Rick Engler worked with union activists to promote a grassroots campaign to keep the agency from losing its funding. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); President Donald Trump’s “skinny” budget, released in March, called for eliminating the board, which began operating in 1998. Engler and labor union activists quickly worked to try and protect the board’s nearly $12 million budget. Engler’s emails further raise concerns about the board’s impartiality. E&E News obtained emails in September, which showed Engler working with the steelworkers union to push new regulations for refineries in California. The correspondence raised … Read entire article »

Farm Handouts Are Out of Control. Here Are 5 Reasons to Target Them in the Budget.

As Congress and the Trump administration develop their budget plans for the fiscal year 2018 budget and beyond, there’s one area that can provide them significant savings: the out-of-control farm handouts. The current farm handout system, often referred to as the “safety net” for agricultural producers, consists of commodity programs such as two major new programs, the Agricultural Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs, and the federal crop insurance program. This safety net costs taxpayers about $15 billion a year. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); There are numerous reasons why farm handouts should be addressed in the budget process, but here are just five. 1. Oppose central planning and anti-market beliefs. Most people would rightly expect any safety net to only protect farmers from major crop losses. Unfortunately, the safety net goes way beyond this. … Read entire article »

Kentucky Court Ruling Protects Artist’s Free Speech, Religious Liberty

When should a business owner’s decisions be condemned as illegal discrimination? Imagine a print shop owned by a devout atheist. A Muslim woman, wearing a hijab, walks into the shop and orders a sign saying, “Allahu Akbar! Allah is greater than all!” Scenario A: The shop owner sees the woman’s hijab when she walks through the door and yells, “Religious nuts aren’t welcome here. Get out!” (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Scenario B: The shop owner sees the woman and asks how he can help her. When he learns about the message she wants him to convey on the sign, he says, “I’m sorry. I’m an atheist and I can’t promote the idea that any god is great. But I can refer you to a shop that will create the sign.” Do you see the … Read entire article »

Undercover Video Exposes Deep Contradiction at the Heart of Planned Parenthood

Just hours after Hollywood filmmaker Joss Whedon launched a foul piece of propaganda celebrating Planned Parenthood, an undercover video surfaced that reveals a much darker reality about the nation’s leading abortion business. Though buoyed by well over $500 million in taxpayer dollars each year, Planned Parenthood offers little else in medical services beyond abortion—despite its rhetoric that would suggest otherwise. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This was made especially clear in Live Action’s video, released on Wednesday. When Live Action called Planned Parenthood clinics asking for other services ranging from prenatal care to adoption to parenting resources, staff at seven of the clinics said to “just go online” or “just Google” those services. In two especially chilling moments in the video, Planned Parenthood staffers tell women who are looking for an ultrasound that they don’t actually … Read entire article »

Iran Re-Elects Rouhani as President. Here’s Why It Doesn’t Matter Much Who the Iranian President Is.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani won a second term in office on Friday, securing about 57 percent of the votes cast in Iran’s carefully vetted and stage-managed presidential election. Rouhani, a pragmatic hardliner often mistakenly described as a “moderate” by Western media, outpolled a field of rival candidates that included Ebrahim Raisi, an ultra-hardline protégé of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader. The election will change little in Iran. In Iran’s theocratic political system, elections advance the interests of mullahcracy, not democracy. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Iran’s clerical rulers claim legitimacy by purporting to be carrying out the will of God, not the will of the people. Unlike in the U.S., Iran’s president is a political figurehead with very limited powers and responsibilities. Iran’s supreme leader is the ultimate arbiter of the important issues, particularly those the … Read entire article »

Trump Calls for Middle East to ‘Take the Lead’ in Fighting Terrorism

Near the birthplace of Islam, President Donald Trump called for an alliance of Muslim-Arab nations to combat Islamic terrorism in his first major international address. “Our goal is a coalition of nations who share the aim of stamping out extremism and providing our children a hopeful future that does honor to God,” Trump said in speaking to the Arab-Islamic-American Summit in Riyadh. Trump, who spoke for about 35 minutes to more than 50 leaders of Muslim-majority countries, also announced many Middle Eastern countries were signing an agreement to prevent terrorism financing by establishing the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center, co-chaired by the United States and Saudi Arabia. Trump also participated in the opening of the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology in Riyadh.
