One-in-Three Think Feds Own Too Much Land

President Donald Trump last month ordered an unprecedented review of national monuments owned by the United States government. The federal government owns just over a quarter of the land in the United States, but voters continue to be divided over whether that’s too much.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 34% of Likely U.S. Voters believe the federal government owns too much of the land in the United States, while 18% think the government doesn’t own enough land. Another 37% feel the amount of land owned by the federal government is about right. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Likely U.S. Voters was conducted on April 27 and 30, 2017 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
