Voters See Higher Costs, Lower Quality Care With Single-Payer System

Voters are split on whether they favor or oppose a single-payer health care system, but they do believe it will lead to higher costs and a lower quality of care.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters believe if the government controls the health care system, the cost of care will go up. Twenty-eight percent (28%) think a single-payer system will drive down the cost of care, while 17% say it will stay about the same. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
