Why Conservatives Still Attack Trump

When people you know well, admire, and who share your values do something you strongly oppose, you have two options: 1) Cease admiring them, or 2) try to understand them and change their minds. In the case of my conservative friends who still snipe (or worse) at President Donald Trump, I have rejected option one. The reason—beside the fact that I simply like many of them—is what I refer to as “moral bank accounts.” Every time we do good, we make a deposit into our moral bank account. And every time we do something bad, we make a withdrawal. These conservatives have made so many deposits into their moral bank accounts that, in my view, their accounts all remain firmly in the black. That means my only choice is option two. But to try … Read entire article »

Meet the Unsung Heroes of the US Border Patrol

SAN DIEGO—Deep inside the U.S. Border Patrol is a little-known elite team called the Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue Unit. Since its creation nearly 20 years ago, BORSTAR has largely flown under the radar. “Most people don’t realize that the Border Patrol has paramedics, search and rescue capability,” says John Welter, a BORSTAR agent in the San Diego sector of the Border Patrol. “But a lot of times our guys put themselves in a lot of danger, and you end up almost in as bad a shape as the person you’re trying to rescue.” BORSTAR initially was created in 1998 to provide Border Patrol the ability to search for and rescue its own agents caught in dangerous situations on the job, and to respond to a growing number of deaths among … Read entire article »

We Hear You: On Memorial Day, Why Americans Don’t Forget to Remember

Editor’s Note: To help commemorate Memorial Day, we decided to share some of your comments responding to holiday pieces in recent years from Heritage Foundation national security expert James Jay Carafano and others.—Ken McIntyre Dear Daily Signal: Both my parents served in World War I, my brother and myself in World War II. I missed D-Day, but just by a few days (“Making Memorial Day Make a Difference“). I am an old fart. I remember well the Great Depression as a teenager, working in … Read entire article »

The Possible Reasons Big Corporations Are So Eager for Trump to Break His Promise on Paris Climate Deal

European countries and major corporations are pressuring President Donald Trump to remain in the Paris climate agreement despite his promises on the campaign trail to withdraw the United States from the Obama-era deal that never gained congressional approval. The Trump administration so far is sticking with being undecided—at least until Trump returns to the United States from his first foreign trip, where on Friday, he’s meeting with Group of Seven ally countries, which support the agreement. Back home, the pressure is growing from multinational corporations, even the energy sector, which have opposed stricter limitations on carbon. Exxon Mobil Corp., once run by Trump’s secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, Royal Dutch Shell, and BP are urging the administration to remain in the agreement. Meanwhile, coal mining company Cloud Peak Energy urged the administration to … Read entire article »

Most Think Americans Should Be Proud of U.S. History

There has been much debate lately over whether states should remove monuments and other symbols that reflect a part of American history that is no longer in line with the nation’s values today. But even with a speckled past, most Americans still believe they should be proud of this country’s history. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 68% of American Adults think Americans should be proud of the history of the United States. That’s down just slightly from the roughly three-out-of-four who have said the same for the past nine years. Sixteen percent (16%) think instead that Americans should be ashamed of the United States’ history, while 15% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.) Imperfect Trump Dominates World Stage and U.S. Media Fabricates By Charles Hurt

This being that time of year when we are supposed to remember and be grateful, it is highly appropriate that we in the damned media — we, the enemy of the public; we, the ink-stained wretches; we, the writers of history’s first draft — should pause a moment and give thanks for President Donald J. Trump, politician extraordinaire. … Read entire article »

Excuse du jour: Hillary Clinton ‘victim’ of ‘assumption I was going to win’

**Written by Doug Powers Hillary Clinton’s still handling her election loss like Mortimer Duke desperately pleading with the NYSE to “turn these machines back on” at the end of Trading Places. Today Clinton again blamed Comey, Russia and the DNC, but added to the excuse list a claim that she was perceived as being too awesome: Clinton, interviewed onstage in California at a tech conference by Recode’s Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg, made a point to say that she took responsibility for her campaign and “every choice” she made, as she has in other public appearances this year. “But,” she said, “that’s not why I lost.” […] The attitude toward her campaign, she posited, was a result of the assumption that she would defeat Donald Trump, and she said it hurt her. “I was … Read entire article »

A Conservative Mom Breaks the Pot Taboo

A Conservative Mom Breaks the Pot Taboo by Michelle Malkin Creators Syndicate Copyright 2017 Let’s talk about marijuana. Specifically, let’s talk about how and why I came to be one of the countless parents across America (and around the world) who have let their chronically ill children try it. A groundbreaking new study published last week in the New England Journal of Medicine reported on the health benefits of cannabidiol for children with epilepsy. The randomized, double-blind, controlled study found that among children with Dravet syndrome taking cannabidiol, the decrease in the frequency of convulsive seizures was 23 percentage points greater than the decrease in seizures among children taking a placebo. Cannabidiol is one of hundreds of chemical components found in cannabis plants. Unlike THC, the most famous of marijuana’s compounds, CBD is nonhallucinogenic and nonaddictive. It … Read entire article »

Meanwhile, an ex-Gitmo detainee has been re-detained (guess why)

**Written by Doug Powers It seems that we’ve seen this story before and probably will again for quite some time: A former Guantanamo Bay inmate is among six people from an alleged jihadi recruiting network linked to the Islamic State group who were detained on Tuesday, a French judicial source said. Among the suspects arrested was Sabir Mahfouz Lahmar, who was freed from the U.S. detention center in Cuba in 2009 after France agreed to accept him, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the case. Obviously the reminder from John Kerry that former Gitmo detainees who return to jihad are “not supposed to be doing that” might not have been enough (go figure!). **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe … Read entire article »
