Judicial Watch Sues State Department, USAID for Documents on Funding to Soros’ Foreign Campaigns

Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against the Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development for records on funding awarded to George Soros’ Open Society Foundation-Albania, the conservative nonprofit watchdog announced Wednesday. The suit was filed May 26 after both government agencies failed to respond to Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act requests. The requests sought records related to contracts, grants, and any other funding that the State Department and USAID awarded to the Foundation Open Society-Albania. The requests also sought communications between the agencies and the foundation. “This is our second FOIA lawsuit to uncover the truth about the scandal of Obama administration’s siphoning tax dollars to the Soros operations in Europe,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “We hope and expect the Trump administration to finally let … Read entire article »

4 Reasons Trump Was Right to Pull Out of the Paris Agreement

President Donald Trump has fulfilled a key campaign pledge, announcing that the U.S. will withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. The Paris Agreement, which committed the U.S. to drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions, was a truly bad deal—bad for American taxpayers, American energy companies, and every single American who depends on affordable, reliable energy. It was also bad for the countries that remain in the agreement. Here are four reasons Trump was right to withdraw. 1. The Paris Agreement was costly and ineffective. The Paris Agreement is highly costly and would do close to nil to address climate change. If carried out, the energy regulations agreed to in Paris by the Obama administration would kill hundreds of thousands of jobs, harm American manufacturing, and destroy $2.5 trillion in gross domestic product by the year 2035. In withdrawing … Read entire article »

Making Net Neutrality a Thing of the Past

Anyone who has followed the hyperbolic debate about net neutrality has likely heard that the Federal Communications Commission is moving to “squelch competition,” “limit consumer choice,” “raise prices,” and perhaps even “destroy the internet.” At least, that is what some activists and crusading late-night comedians claim. But none of this is true. Rather, what the FCC did two weeks ago was vote to reconsider the agency’s barely 2-year-old decision to begin regulating the internet, for the first time ever, under Title II of the 1934 Communications Act. Why did the FCC begin to regulate the internet through a law designed to govern rotary telephones? It wasn’t because the existing free and open internet was harming Americans. The activists and entertainers clamoring for more government claimed it was under attack by predatory internet service providers. But strangely … Read entire article »

Wasserman Schultz Admits Hill IT Security Violations, Blames House Administrators for Not Stopping Her

Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, whose office equipment U.S. Capitol Police seized in a criminal investigation into congressional network security violations, admitted she violated official information security policy and blamed the House’s chief administrative officer for not stopping her. In a May 17 appropriations hearing on Congress’ administrative budget, Wasserman Shultz said she had violated the policies “for years and years and years.” She also sought to find out how much House authorities might know … Read entire article »

This Farmer Won’t Host Same-Sex Weddings at His Orchard. Now a City Has Banned Him From Its Farmers Market.

This Farmer Won’t Host Same-Sex Weddings at His Orchard. Now a City Has Banned Him From Its Farmers Market.

A farmers market and Facebook posts have opened a new front in courtroom battles over religious freedom. It started when Steve Tennes, who owns a 120-acre farm in Charlotte, Michigan, expressed his traditional view about marriage on the farm’s Facebook page. This drew a warning from an official more than 20 miles away in East Lansing, Michigan, that if Tennes tried to sell his fruit at the city’s farmers market, it could incite protests. No one showed up … Read entire article »

What Happens When We Don’t Raise Kids to Become Adults

What Happens When We Don’t Raise Kids to Become Adults

When I was little, mom would leave detailed lists of chores on the kitchen counter each summer morning for my siblings and me to complete before we could play baseball, ride bikes, or go swimming. And when I arrived at college, basically everyone with whom I became friends, a group from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds, had also done real work growing up. Not everyone had worked in the field like I had—most had spent summers … Read entire article »

Trump Administration Considering Rule That Would Help Little Sisters of the Poor

For employers that don’t want to provide birth control and abortifacient coverage in health insurance plans, relief may be on the way. President Donald Trump’s administration “is poised to make changes to Obamacare’s birth control coverage mandate by granting broad exemptions to employers that object on religious or moral grounds,” The Hill reported. The proposed move is being cheered by some conservatives. “Better late than never,” Mark Rienzi, senior counsel with the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, a nonprofit legal organization, said in a statement. “At long last the United States government acknowledges that people can get contraceptives without forcing nuns to provide them,” Rienzi added. “That is sensible, fair, and in keeping with the Supreme Court’s order and the president’s promise to the Little Sisters and other religious groups serving the poor.” The … Read entire article »
