The Shameful Response of the Left to Attempted GOP Massacre

Maybe I’m just too naïve. I’d expected that liberals would eventually turn to talk of gun control after Wednesday’s violent, horrible shooting targeting GOP lawmakers. This was an attack that left House Majority Whip Steve Scalise in critical condition as of Wednesday night, according to the hospital treating him, as well as wounding three others–a lawmaker’s aide, a Capitol Police officer, and a lobbyist. One of them, lobbyist and former Capitol Hill aide Matt Mika, also is in critical condition, according to reports. I’d thought liberals would at least react with sympathy and sorrow that innocent people had been targeted by former Bernie Sanders volunteer James Hodgkinson, the man police say was the shooter, and allow some time to pass before switching to gun control. And maybe there even would be some honest self-reflection on … Read entire article »

Why the Outrage About Losing ‘Internet Privacy’ Is Bogus

We live in an era of outrage. Sometimes that outrage is justified, but more often, outrage is a tactic—a manipulative spin that is borne more out of anger than a care for accuracy. The recent, widespread claims that Congress has “repealed your internet privacy” fall far closer to manipulation than to accuracy. If the only victims of this misleading spin were politicians, we might just shrug and say, “Caveat Socius”—Latin for “Let the member beware.” Unfortunately, in addition to causing a great deal of unjustified outrage, this campaign resulted in donations of more than $200,000 to, frankly, fraudulent efforts to buy the browsing histories of members of Congress. This cannot be done. Here is the real story. During the final weeks of the Obama administration, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), over the protests of the Federal … Read entire article »

Trump’s Withdrawal From Paris Was a Nod of Respect to American Citizens

Two weeks ago, President Donald Trump announced the federal government would pull out of the supposedly “non-binding” Paris Climate Accord signed by President Barack Obama. This should not have been a surprise. Earlier this March, Trump signed an order rescinding President Barack Obama’s so-called Clean Power Plan, a 1,560-page regulation that would have rewritten America’s federal energy policy. This massive new regulatory burden—never approved by Congress—was the cornerstone of Obama’s Climate Action Plan. Meeting the emissions reduction targets Obama agreed to in Paris would have been impossible without it. So as soon as Trump killed the Clean Power Plan back in March, he also functionally killed the Paris Accord. Both actions are fantastic news for the American people. Obama’s Clean Power Plan would have closed hundreds of coal-fired power plants and frozen construction of new … Read entire article »

US and Vietnam Deepen Ties During Prime Minister’s Recent Visit

The May summit between President Donald Trump and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuân Phúc demonstrated the extent of warming relations between Vietnam and the U.S. Over the past two decades, U.S.-Vietnam relations have been relatively stable with converging interests in economics, military affairs, and geopolitics. This relationship will prove to be particularly important as both countries contend with China’s expansion in the South China Sea. Hours after meeting with Trump, Phúc spoke at The Heritage Foundation about Vietnamese-American relations and Vietnam’s security concerns. During his speech, the prime minister touched on several shared U.S.-Vietnamese interests. He commended the trading of technology and produce, the signing of $15 billion in contracts, the investing of $10 billion to American projects in Vietnam, and the expanding of tourism and education. According to U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, … Read entire article »

Why Economic Freedom and Peace Go Hand in Hand

It’s natural to think that economic freedom and peace should go together. Vindicating that idea, new empirical evidence shows that economically freer countries tend to be more peaceful and stable, while less economically free countries tend to be riddled with violence. The standings of more than 150 countries in two independent indexes, The Heritage Foundation’s 2017 Index of Economic Freedom and the Institute for Economics and Peace’s Global Peace Index, track each other rather closely. For example, North Korea and Venezuela, two countries whose citizens endure privation and a constant threat of violence, sit near the bottom of both indexes. On the opposite, more positive side of the spectrum are three countries—New Zealand, Canada, and Ireland—that crack the top 10 in both indexes. The relationship between peace and economic freedom makes sense. A certain level … Read entire article »

Planned Parenthood donates millions to Dems to keep them OUT of ‘health care’?

Planned Parenthood donates millions to Dems to keep them OUT of ‘health care’?

**Written by Doug Powers Coming from Planned Parenthood this is utterly laughable: No politicians should be involved in “health care”? They have a weird way of leading by example: They can tell Nancy Pelosi personally they don’t think she should be involved in their business the next time they present her with a Margaret Sanger award. But anyway, it’s nice of Planned Parenthood to argue in favor of the defunding of Planned Parenthood. (h/t Twitchy) **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe … Read entire article »
