Trump Administration Keeps Obama LGBT Policies at Pentagon, Other Agencies

The Defense Department recently held an LGBT Pride Month event, while the Army conducted transgender sensitivity training, moves that baffled retired Army Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin and some other conservatives. “Every dollar we spend on social engineering is one dollar less we are spending on defense,” Ken Boehm says. They had expected that the new command, under President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary James Mattis, a retired Marine general, would revise if not reverse some of the Obama administration’s policies on transgender individuals in the military. “I was very surprised, not so much by Donald Trump but by Gen. Mattis. I thought his total focus would be on military readiness and winning wars, and not social engineering,” Boykin told The Daily Signal. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Boykin is now executive vice president of the Family Research Council, which promotes … Read entire article »

Senators Seek to Stop Government Subsidies for Sports Stadiums

Two senators are calling foul on government subsidies for professional sports stadiums. Sens. James Lankford, R- Okla., and Cory Booker, D – N.J., introduced a bill Tuesday named “Eliminating Federal Tax Subsidies for Stadiums Act”. “The federal government is responsible for a lot of important functions, but financing sports stadiums for multi-million—sometimes billion—dollar franchises is definitely not one of them,” Lankford said in a statement. “Using billions of federal taxpayer dollars for the subsidization of private stadiums when we have real infrastructure needs in our country is not a good way to prioritize a limited amount of funds.” (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); According to a press release from Lankford’s office, “The bill would close a loophole in the tax code that allows professional sports teams to finance new stadiums with municipal bonds that … Read entire article »

3 Tips for Discussing Obamacare

Americans love coffee, and they love to customize it. Me, I’m a medium, one Splenda, soy latte kind of girl. Choice is a good thing, and it’s one of the things that make America, well, America. Yet sadly, if you stand up for choice in healthcare, it’s likely that the people in your lives — family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers — will believe what they hear. But with so many persuadable Americans looking for solutions, now is the time to speak up. Here are three quick tips you can use, not only to set the narrative straight on Obamacare repeal, but change minds. Tip number one: find common ground. Currently I’m surrounded by people with different opinions on healthcare. Yet I’m willing to bet we have one thing in common, and … Read entire article »

Our Public School System Isn’t Producing Education Equality

All across America, preparations are underway for high school graduation. It’s a glorious time, representing both a milestone and a gateway to adulthood. But missing from this year’s ceremonies are more than one million kids who dropped out and will not be attending graduation day. The future those high school dropouts face is chilling. They will have a much harder time getting a job and will earn much less than those who did graduate. They’re also more likely to commit a crime and more likely to be the victim of one. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); In short, many of them face a life that will be so much more difficult—all because they could not or chose not to finish high school. The consequences of this crisis are especially evident in my community. Today, more … Read entire article »

What the Treasury’s New Recommendations Would Mean for Financial Reform

This week, in response to President Donald Trump’s February executive order, the U.S. Treasury released the first in a series of reports examining the U.S. financial regulatory system. The report identifies policies that would improve federal financial regulation in a manner consistent with the Trump administration’s seven core principles. Treasury incorporated a wide range of perspectives on financial regulatory reform, and they should be commended for producing a large volume of specific reform proposals. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); For the most part, the reforms seem perfectly in line with the administration’s core principles. And since those principles closely track the ideas in the Financial CHOICE Act—Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling’s bill that recently passed the House—Americans should be rejoicing. Treasury champions the innovative “off-ramp” approach to regulatory relief found in the CHOICE Act. For instance, … Read entire article »

What Feminist Camille Paglia Says About Transgenderism

Feminist and Bernie Sanders supporter Camille Paglia isn’t toeing the liberal party line when it comes to transgenderism. “The cold biological truth is that sex changes are impossible. Every single cell of the human body remains coded with one’s birth gender for life,” she told The Weekly Standard in an interview published June 15. The author of “Sexual Personae”, Paglia identifies herself as “a registered Democrat who voted for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primary and for Jill Stein in the general election.” (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); “It is certainly ironic how liberals who posture as defenders of science when it comes to global warming (a sentimental myth unsupported by evidence) flee all reference to biology when it comes to gender,” said Paglia. Ryan Anderson, a senior research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, agrees … Read entire article »

These 2 Solar Companies Want Special Treatment. Here’s Why That Would Harm Green Technologies.

In recent weeks, two U.S. manufacturers of solar energy components—Suniva and SolarWorld—have petitioned the U.S. International Trade Commission to impose tariffs on the imports of various products used in the production of solar panels. Such an initiative has been rightly condemned by the solar industry itself. Such a tariff would benefit Suniva and SolarWorld for a time, but would hurt most others, including assemblers and installers of solar arrays and customers wanting solar energy for their homes and businesses. Tariffs like what Suniva and SolarWorld are requesting would severely restrict everyday Americans from purchasing more competitive technology at a lower price from abroad. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Some have complained that President Donald Trump’s decision to exit the Paris climate agreement is abandoning the future of energy, which they argue is in renewable … Read entire article »

Subsidizing Nuclear Is No Strategy for Long-Term Success

With yet another nuclear power plant joining the ranks of those closing ahead of schedule, it’s clear that something is amiss in the nuclear power industry. That “something” is the accumulation of federal policies that stifle innovation and efficiency in the industry and simultaneously subsidize it to keep it alive on life support. Members of the House Ways and Means Committee reviewed a bill (H.R. 1551) that basically continues the status quo. That is not acceptable. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Despite the many energy and environmental benefits of nuclear power, the industry has fallen on tough times. Low natural gas prices have put pressure on the nuclear industry, though this has happened before. Subsidies at the state and federal levels have prioritized renewable energy technology rather than qualities like reliability of electricity supply, where … Read entire article »

Why Conservatives Put Trust in Trey Gowdy as House’s Corruption Fighter

Conservative leaders say they’re confident the new chairman of a House of Representatives panel that targets corruption will dedicate himself to reviewing executive branch actions, including during the Obama administration. Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C.,  assumed the chairmanship of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee after his confirmation Tuesday. He takes the reins from Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, who will leave Congress on June 30. The oversight committee, which works to expose abuse, waste, and fraud, seeks to ensure the “efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of the federal government and all its agencies,” according to the panel’s website. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); “I think there are opportunities for accountability for misconduct in the Obama administration that should be taken advantage of,” Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, a conservative legal oversight organization, said of … Read entire article »

Scott Pelley: Ya know, the attack on GOP congressmen was ‘to some degree self-inflicted’

**Written by Doug Powers A post-shooting spin of choice embraced by liberal actors and MSNBC talking heads obviously resonated in select totally objective mainstream media newsrooms. CBS News’ Scott Pelley took that handoff and ran with it as evidenced by a commentary that started this way: It’s time to ask whether the attack on the United States Congress, yesterday, was foreseeable, predictable and, to some degree, self-inflicted. Too many leaders, and political commentators, who set an example for us to follow, have led us into an abyss of violent rhetoric which, it should be no surprise, has led to violence. Yesterday was not the first time. Pelley’s last broadcast as anchor of the CBS Evening News was the next night, so he obviously decided to let the objectivity mask drop all the way to the … Read entire article »
