Growing Pile of Data Shows That Voter Fraud Is a Real and Vast Problem

This week, The Heritage Foundation is updating its Voter Fraud Database with 89 new entries, including 75 convictions and a slew of overturned elections and civil fines targeting vote fraudsters. With these latest additions, the database now documents 581 cases of proven voter fraud and 848 criminal convictions. Heritage’s database proves not only that voter fraud is real and ongoing, but also that it is not isolated to any particular state or region. With the addition of cases from Nebraska and Oklahoma—two states previously unaccounted for in the database—Heritage now has documented proof of electoral fraud in 47 states. This truly is a problem that spans the nation. The evidence is mounting, and it is incontrovertible—yet many liberals still refuse to acknowledge the gravity of the problem, or even admit that it exists at … Read entire article »

Active Cyber Defense Will Help Deter Future Threats

On Tuesday, a massive cyberattack hit Ukraine. The very next day, professor Scott Jasper of the Naval Postgraduate School offered a systematic analysis of the United States’ existing strategic cyber deterrence options, of which active cyber defense will play the leading role in the years ahead. Active cyber defense may be the answer to the ever-increasing cybersecurity threat, as it allows for greater maneuverability by the private sector and presents greater policy options to deter and defeat nefarious actors. The number of cyberattacks is at an all-time high for both the United States and our allies around the world. According to the Department of Justice, there are more than 4,000 ransomware attacks daily. Active cyber defense would allow the United States and private industries to deter attacks with three main capabilities: retaliation, denial, and … Read entire article »

Conservative Lawmakers Ask Congressional Leadership to Cancel August Recess

A conservative lawmaker is leading an effort in the House of Representatives to ask congressional leadership to cancel lawmakers’ August recess to give members more time to work on legislative priorities such as Obamacare repeal and tax reform. “We request that you cancel Congress’s current plans to recess for the month of August to ensure there is enough time to address the long list of pressing issues on our docket,” reads a letter organized by Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., a member of the House Freedom Caucus. The letter, directed to House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., also was signed by 11 other Republican representatives:  Ron DeSantis of Florida, Ken Buck of Colorado, Ted Yoho of Florida, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, Paul Gosar of Arizona, Dave Brat of Virginia, Jody Hice of Georgia, Jeff … Read entire article »

Grading Neil Gorsuch After 2 Months on the Court

Justice Neil Gorsuch closed out his first two months on the Supreme Court this week, leaving conservatives cautiously optimistic about the future direction of the court. Though he only participated in a limited number of cases this term, his commitment to textualism was evident in these early opinions. If this is a sign of what’s to come over the next several decades, then Gorsuch is the real deal. Gorsuch issued his first majority opinion in Henson v. Santander Consumer USA. The case involved deciding who is a “debt collector” under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Gorsuch’s opinion demonstrated his commitment to the law as it was written. He declined the petitioner’s invitation to change the clear text of a statute, writing: [I]t is never our job to rewrite a constitutionally valid statutory … Read entire article »

Trump Signals Support for Repealing Obamacare Now, Then Replacing It Later

President Donald Trump and conservative senators are embracing a new tactic in their quest to undo the damage of Obamacare: Repeal it now, then replace it later. If the approach sounds familiar, it’s what conservatives had planned to do in January until Trump, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and other Republicans insisted on a replacement at the same time. Today, however, the repeal-now, replace-later idea is gaining momentum again. Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., is urging lawmakers and Trump to consider the alternate path after Senate Republicans failed to reach agreement on their version of a health care bill, the Better Care Reconciliation Act, before the July 4 recess. “The Senate will next be in legislative session on Monday, July 10,” Sasse wrote Friday in a letter to Trump. “If we don’t get to agreement … Read entire article »

Ohio Is Already Rolling Back Parts of Obamacare. How Other States Can Do the Same.

For years, most Americans have looked to Washington for relief from Obamacare. To be sure, Congress must pass and the president must sign a full repeal of Obamacare so that states and citizens can regain their health care freedom and decision-making. But even while Obamacare remains law, states have the tools to stop and roll back parts of the law in their state. In Ohio, we are doing just that. In April, I proposed that an enrollment freeze on Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion population be added to Ohio’s budget during House deliberations. I believed then, as I do today, that this is a necessary step to both free up resources for those who are truly vulnerable and to ensure that our Medicaid program, and state as a whole, is financially sound for the future. Fortunately, the … Read entire article »

Shocker! ‘Obamaphone’ program a fraud-fest (open thread)

Shocker! ‘Obamaphone’ program a fraud-fest (open thread)

**Written by Doug Powers Here’s a quick open thread for a holiday weekend Sunday while I get the fireworks show prepped for Tuesday night. Leading it off is perhaps the least surprising news of the past decade: The “Obamaphone” program is a fraud-fest: A new government audit finds more than a third of enrollees of the “Obamaphone” program may not be qualified — among other fraudulent findings — prompting a Senate Democrat to roundly criticize the program’s … Read entire article »
