Rick Perry’s Plans for US Energy Dominance

America is approaching energy independence, but still needs to remove obstacles, Energy Secretary Rick Perry says. “The previous administration talked about energy independence, but wouldn’t drill and transport. It was all talk,” @SecretaryPerry says. “We are very close to being energy independent,” Perry told The Daily Signal in a brief interview. “Regarding our ability to retrieve energy, we don’t need anybody. Transportation may be our biggest impediment.” The United States is a net energy exporter, the former Texas governor noted, but an old law and the Obama administration’s preference for some energy industries over others prevented the nation from being as strong as necessary. The 1920 Jones Act requires that vessels carrying fuel or other goods in U.S. waters between U.S. ports must be built, registered, owned, and crewed by American citizens. Because it costs … Read entire article »

Flags of Steel: How a Combat Veteran Works to Unite Americans

An Air Force veteran in Utah uses his talent and passion to make, display, and sell images of the one thing he believes can help unite Americans: the nation’s flag. Creating the flag out of steel is his way of bringing people together, Josh Vandenbrink says in an interview with The Daily Signal, and of being a part of the dialogue in politics without getting directly involved. “It’s a way to connect with the community,” Vandenbrink says, on “common ground [because] we can all love the flag.” Vandenbrink served in Air Force special operations as a pararescueman, deploying 21 times over 14 years to the Middle East and Africa. Now he runs Iron Mountain Designs, which describes itself as a quality furnishing company that creates pieces for homes, businesses, and public spaces. 37-year-old … Read entire article »

College Trustees Are Largely to Blame for Today’s Campus Madness

Is there no limit to the level of disgusting behavior on college campuses that parents, taxpayers, donors, and legislators will accept? Colleges have become islands of intolerance, and as with fish, the rot begins at the head. Let’s examine some recent episodes representative of a general trend and ask ourselves why we should tolerate it, plus pay for it. Students at Evergreen State College harassed biology professor Bret Weinstein because he refused to leave campus, challenging the school’s decision to ask white people to leave campus for a day of diversity programming. The profanity-laced threats against the faculty and president can be seen on a YouTube video titled “Student takeover of Evergreen State College.” What about administrators permitting students to conduct racially segregated graduation ceremonies, which many colleges have done, including Ivy League ones such … Read entire article »

Trump to Meet With Putin, G-20 Leaders in Second European Trip

Europe is readying for yet another visit from President Donald Trump, the second in this young presidency. No doubt a media circus will follow him wherever he goes, and Trump will have quite an agenda. This time, Trump will be making a number of stops: first at the Warsaw summit on July 5, where Poland will be making the case for a North-South commerce and energy axis in Europe, stretching from Poland to Croatia; then at the two-day G-20 developing countries summit in Hamburg, Germany, on July 7, where he’ll be meeting in person with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time. Trump will then return to Europe for the French Bastille Day celebration on July 14—Trump caught the French by surprise by accepting a half-serious invitation from the newly elected French … Read entire article »

The Tragic Case of Charlie Gard Highlights the Importance of Parental Rights

The tragic case of Charlie Gard, the British infant who will soon be taken off life support, has exposed the scale of the malfunction in the British family court system. This is a court system driven by ideological professionals and overseen by compliant judges who have lost their moorings in Judeo-Christian values. Charlie is a 10-month-old infant who suffers from an extremely rare and debilitating genetic disease and has already suffered significant brain damage. He cannot move his arms or legs and cannot breathe without the assistance of a ventilator. On June 8, the United Kingdom Supreme Court permitted the hospital to withdraw such support to enable Charlie to die with “dignity,” in its own words. However, Charlie has the benefit of two loving and devoted parents who were prepared to do all in … Read entire article »

Keeping Freedom and Growth in the Fourth by Lawrence Kudlow

What is the Fourth of July? It’s a wonderful time. We’re outdoors. We’re with family and friends. We’re playing golf or fishing. There are barbecues and baseball games and fireworks and all that good stuff. And beneath it all, supporting it all, there is freedom. Freedom. The Fourth of July is about freedom, if nothing else. America’s freedom, of course. But a freedom that extends to all people. One that leads to greatness and prosperity. A freedom that has become the backbone of the world. … Read entire article »

Generic Ballot Model Gives Democrats Early Advantage in Battle for Control of House By Alan I. Abramowitz

Results of recent special elections have fueled speculation about whether Democrats have a realistic chance to regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm elections. Although Republican candidates have won recent special elections for seats vacated by President Donald Trump’s Cabinet appointees in Georgia, Kansas, Montana, and South Carolina, the GOP victory margins in all four contests have been much smaller than those for the former Republican incumbents in 2016. … Read entire article »

Of course: Jerry Brown invites private jet parade to Calif. for emergency climate change conference

**Written by Doug Powers President Trump pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement has left Gov. Jerry Brown with no choice but a last ditch effort to save California (and the planet) from the effects of fossil fuel emissions: A parade of eco-hypocrites crop dusting the planet with private jet exhaust to get to his climate summit: California Gov. CNN’s WH correspondent crosses the ‘fake news’ streams

**Written by Doug Powers Well, CNN continued its incredible run of self-inflicted crotch-kickings today. It started like this: On Thursday morning’s edition of ‘New Day,’ CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta discussed the short press conference President Trump and the Polish president gave this morning in Warsaw. The two leaders only took four questions — two from each country’s press corps — and left several follow up questions unanswered. Acosta also questioned the president’s claim that it was … Read entire article »
