The Number of Young Men Not Working Has Doubled in 15 Years

Young men are working less and playing video games more, according to a National Bureau of Economic Research study published Monday. Men ages 21 to 30 years old worked 12 percent fewer hours in 2015 than they did in 2000, the economists found. Around 15 percent of young men worked zero weeks in 2015, a rate nearly double that of 2000. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Since 2004, young men have increasingly allocated more of their free time to playing video games and other computer-related activities, according to the study. Thirty-five percent of young men are living at home with their parents or a close relative, up 12 percent since 2000. The results of the economists’ research are interesting, considering there are 10 million American men ages 24 to 64 that have completely dropped out of the … Read entire article »

Democrats’ Fearmongering Over Medicaid Ignores Just How Bad the Program Is

Die-hard Obamacare defenders are out in force to protest Republican repeal efforts. The protesters are falsely claiming the repeal will gut Medicaid, causing frail, indigent seniors to be evicted from nursing homes. It’s sheer demagoguery. But even these phony claims could have redeeming value if they get the public to take a closer look at nursing homes and see the filth, rampant infections, and neglect—conditions routinely tolerated by our indifferent public officials. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Indifference is the real culprit, not inadequate Medicaid money. For example, New York state pays among the highest Medicaid rates in the nation—yet also tolerates some of the worst conditions. A shocking 40 percent of nursing homes in New York provide inferior care, according to federal ratings. That’s worse than 39 other states. Nationwide, one-third of nursing home residents suffer … Read entire article »

Congress Bucks White House Budget Proposal, Shows Commitment to Rebuilding the Military

Congress has rejected President Donald Trump’s defense budget proposal. Both the Senate and the House armed services committees have authorized more resources for the Department of Defense than what the Trump administration asked for. These are great developments that show Congress is taking seriously the problems that plague our armed forces. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Both committees got within the ballpark of The Heritage Foundation’s recommended topline of $632 billion for the base discretionary budget. The Senate decided on $640 billion, and the House agreed on $621 billion. All these numbers are above Trump’s request of $603 billion. Heritage’s work also estimates close to $14 billion in savings from reforms that would improve how the Department of Defense operates. Upon the release of the president’s 2018 budget request, the general assessment on Capitol Hill and … Read entire article »

Few Think States Should Be Able to Ignore Federal Laws

California is on the brink of declaring itself a sanctuary state which would shield illegal immigrants from federal immigration authorities. But most voters don’t think states should have the right to go against the federal government. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that just 23% of Likely U.S. Voters think that, generally speaking, states and localities should have the right to ignore federal laws that they don’t agree with. Most (62%) disagree, but 15% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.) (Want a free daily e-mail update? If it’s in the news, it’s in our polls). Priorities: Bill de Blasio flies to G20 to join fellow Resistors

**Written by Doug Powers No more calls are necessary, we have our “Headline of the Week” winner: (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); That’s the leftist equivalent of winning a dream vacation on The Price is Right. Having solved all other problems in his own city… Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday skipped an NYPD swearing-in ceremony made somber by this week’s assassination of a cop — then hours later revealed he was busy preparing to jet off on a surprise … Read entire article »
