Why This European Leader Is Embracing the Trump Presidency

Hungary’s foreign minister came to Washington last week seeking something from the Trump administration that his government is being denied by the European Union—sympathy for its sovereign right to make its own internal decisions and laws. He deserves a hearing. Such a return to basic relations among nation-states—let alone treaty allies and friends—is also a radical departure from the previous administration. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said the Obama administration had failed to respect Budapest’s right to self-determination. At a speech at The Heritage Foundation last week, Szijjártó shared an anecdote of a meeting he had in 2014 with Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland. The two were meeting because then-Secretary of State John Kerry refused to meet Szijjártó. In the meeting, Nuland “threw” a piece of paper at Szijjártó with a list of requirements … Read entire article »

The bill would have rewritten the Affordable Care Act, passed in 2010 under President Barack Obama. Jenny Beth Martin, Tea Party Patriots co-founder, called getting rid of Obamacare the “single unifying factor” amongst grassroots activists who have worked … Read entire article »

House and Senate Set to Protect Consumers From an Overreaching Federal Agency

On Thursday, Republicans in both the House and Senate took a major step toward nullifying the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s harmful arbitration rule. In the House, Financial Services Committee member Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-Pa., sponsored a resolution of disapproval that will allow Congress to invalidate the rule through the Congressional Review Act. At almost the exact same time, Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Chairman Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, and his Republican colleagues announced that they would also file a joint resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act. Members of Congress had previously voiced concerns that the new arbitration rule would harm consumers—more than 50 members sent Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray a letter in June—but the bureau failed to address those concerns in its final rule. Now, Congress has … Read entire article »
