Voters Think Military is Overstretched

The Trump administration is preparing to use military action against North Korea if deemed necessary, but most voters already think our military is stretched too thin and don’t want the United States policing the world.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 55% of Likely U.S. Voters think the U.S. military is overstretched these days. Just 29% think it can adequately handle the number of missions it has, but 17% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on July 2-3, 2017 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
