Value of US Weapons Goes Far Beyond Battlefield, Ukrainian Troops Say

KYIV, Ukraine—On the front lines against Russia and its separatist proxies in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian soldiers have, throughout the past three years of relentless combat, frequently turned to symbols of America to both intimidate and annoy their enemies—sometimes, in eclectic and creative ways. Ukrainian soldiers have raised U.S. flags over their front-line trenches and forts—typically to the retort of sniper or mortar fire from across no man’s land. Sometimes, to really get under the enemy’s skin, an English-speaking Ukrainian soldier will radio commands in English over unencrypted channels, pretending to be a member of SEAL Team Six. At the front-line village of Krymske in 2015, just outside the separatist stronghold of Luhansk, Ukrainian troops renamed a street from that of a Soviet luminary to “John McCain Street.” When Canadian journalist and filmmaker Christian … Read entire article »

Conservatives Must Demand Spending Controls in Exchange for Raising Debt Ceiling

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has indicated that the federal borrowing limit must be raised by Sept. 29, or the U.S. could run out of money to pay its bills. Congress, which controls the purse strings of the U.S. government, should not abdicate that authority by writing Mnuchin a blank check and getting nothing in return for American taxpayers. Any increase in the debt limit should be tied to spending controls. It is the American taxpayers whose money Congress is authorizing to be spent. Increasingly it is American children, or those not yet born, who will be burdened with the federal debt. They will owe America’s lenders unfathomable amounts of money because of Congress’ irresponsible spending. Today, the federal debt stands just shy of $20 trillion. That is $1 trillion more than gross domestic product … Read entire article »

Why Trump’s Ban on Travel to North Korea Is a Positive Step

Following the tragic death of American student Otto Warmbier, who was in a coma for a year in North Korean captivity, the Trump administration has decided to ban U.S. citizens from traveling to North Korea. The ban would also target a source of finances for North Korea’s ballistic missile programs and nuclear weapons. North Korea recently conducted its second intercontinental ballistic missile test on July 28, which demonstrated an ability to threaten the continental United States. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson plans to implement a “geographical travel restriction” for North Korea, which makes it illegal to use U.S. passports to travel to, through, and in North Korea. The State Department published an official note of the ban on the Federal Register website on Aug. 2. The travel ban will enter into effect on Sept. … Read entire article »

Florida Republican Asks Attorney General to Look Into Former House IT Aide’s Finances

A House Republican from Florida this week urged Attorney General Jeff Sessions to determine whether any U.S. financial institutions have reported suspicious banking activity by a former information technology aide to a Florida Democrat who until last year headed the national party. Imran Awan; his wife, Hina Alvi; his brothers; and his best friend are all former IT aides to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., and dozens of other House Democrats. The five are suspects in a … Read entire article »

Strong Jobs Report for July Gives Trump Momentum for Tax Reform

The U.S. economy created 209,000 jobs last month, according to the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics jobs report, exceeding expert predictions by nearly 30,000 jobs. This gives the Trump administration momentum to continue pushing for meaningful reforms that help grow the economy and increase prosperity. According to the report, the U-3 unemployment rate (unemployed job seekers as a percentage of the civilian labor force) fell by one-tenth of a percent from 4.4 percent back to a low 4.3 percent, while the labor force participation increased from 62.8 percent to 62.9 percent, and the U-6 measure for unemployment (which combines all the factors together) remained unchanged. These numbers signal that Americans are seeing reasons and motivation to jump back into the labor force to seek employment, and are actually finding jobs. Breaking down the … Read entire article »
