Most Still Say ‘No’ to Letting Illegal Immigrants Vote

A sizable majority of voters still opposes giving illegal immigrants the vote, even in local elections. Democrats remain much more supportive of the idea than other voters do, however.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 33% of Likely U.S. Voters believe that illegal immigrants should be allowed to vote if they can prove they live in this country and pay taxes.  That compares to 26% in March of last year and 35% in May 2015, the first time we asked this question. But 60% continue to oppose letting illegal immigrants vote, although that’s down from a high of 67%. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on August 7-8, 2017 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
