For 13 Hours, This Texan Helped Rescue Those With the ‘Save Us’ Signal

One Texan spent 13 hours on a tractor Tuesday to help rescue people affected by the flooding from Tropical Storm Harvey, hauling boats toward those still stranded. Citing the morning news, Mark Morrow, a resident of Katy, a Houston suburb, said there were “a thousand houses … under water” in one area. (Photo Courtesy: Mark Morrow) There were some people who refused to leave, but there was a universal sign for those who did want to be rescued: white flags. “[The flags] signified, ‘Get us out of here,’” explained Morrow in a phone interview with The Daily Signal. “If you put something white in your window, or hung a white sheet on tiki torches, that somehow became … Read entire article »

Trump Says Tax Reform Could Create ‘Millions and Millions of New Jobs’

President Donald Trump hit his campaign themes of bringing back American jobs and raising wages in launching his quest for tax reform, while blasting special interest loopholes. “I don’t want to be disappointed by Congress,” @POTUS says. “Let’s put, or at least try to put, the partisan posturing behind us and come together as Americans to create the 21st century tax code that our people deserve,” Trump told the audience Wednesday at the Loren Cook Company in Springfield, Missouri. “If we unite, in the name of common sense and the name of common good, then we will add millions and millions of new jobs, bring back trillions of dollars, and we will give America the competitive advantage it so desperately needs and has been looking for so long,” Trump continued. “Instead of exporting our … Read entire article »

Florida Democrat Election Official Admits Noncitizens, Felons Voting

A veteran Democrat chief election official in Florida has conceded in court that noncitizens and felons possibly voted, in a case that could have national implications for how localities clean up voter rolls. Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes is defending her office against a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Rights Union, a conservative legal group that contends there are more voters registered on Broward’s rolls than there are eligible voters in the county. Those rolls are said to be inflated with not only noncitizens and felons, but also other ineligible people who have voted illegally. On July 31, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel newspaper reported that, in court, “Snipes acknowledged the processes her office [has] been using aren’t perfect and that some noncitizens and felons have voted despite not being eligible—especially right … Read entire article »

4 Ways to Change Our Tax Code to Boost Economic Growth

In a national speech on Wednesday, President Donald Trump framed the tax reform debate that will continue to unfold when Congress returns next week. The president’s vision focused on letting Americans keep more of their own money. Done rightly, this vision can unleash robust economic growth that will benefit all Americans. America is suffering under the current tax code. It features high rates and endless complexity for most Americans while providing untold opportunities for a privileged few. The rich can afford accountants and lawyers to navigate the code’s bureaucratic morass while every other American merely files their taxes and hopes for the best. The president’s vision for a simpler tax code that allows the economy to grow can be realized through four key reforms. 1. Allow full expensing. The United States has an outdated and … Read entire article »

Keith Olbermann’s Vile Contempt for Conservative Women

Once a woman-hating blowhard, always a woman-hating blowhard. Keith Olbermann, the “new” face of the Democratic resistance on Conde Nast’s digital video platform, is the same old foul-mouthed beast he was on cable TV. Over the weekend, the former MSNBC frother went berserk over Trump Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ anodyne call for prayers “for all those in the path of #HurricaneHarvey” and her promise to “assist impacted schools.” “The hurricane is going to do less damage to schools than you are, Motherf—er,” Olbermann snarled in response (and no, he did not use dashes in his unfiltered, uncensored tweet). The Twitter Trust and Safety Council, established with much fanfare last year to promote tolerance, discourage bullies, and ensure “people can continue to express themselves freely and safely on Twitter,” was nowhere to be found. Neither were … Read entire article »

Most Now Think Feds Should Finance Weather Disaster Clean-Up

The Houston area is reeling after being hit by Hurricane Harvey earlier this week, but more voters than ever now think the clean-up and recovery efforts in situations like these should be the federal government’s responsibility. Of course: PP, NARAL cheer judge’s block of ‘dismemberment abortion’ ban

**Written by Doug Powers A new Texas law barring “dismemberment abortions” has been temporarily blocked by a judge who obviously was never a victim of that particular glorious example of “freedom of choice”: U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel issued a temporary injunction Thursday against a law, recently signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, banning some “dilation and evacuation” second trimester abortions. The law would’ve taken effect Friday. The legislation specifically prohibited the performance of abortion procedures that extract … Read entire article »
