Tom Friedman: “America The Most Connected” Is Better Than “America First”

New York Times columnist and author Tom Friedman joins CNN’s Anderson Cooper to respond to President Trump’s UN address. TOM FRIEDMAN: It is a worldview that I just don’t share The worldview that the president espoused was: America First. I think we became a prosperous and secure country since World War Two in particular by being America The Most Connected. I think in a world where networks are becoming the center of our lives, and what flows through that network are trade, information, opportunity, and ideas, the country that is connected to the most networks is going to be the most thriving and most secure, and I just don’t agree with the president’s point of view. … Read entire article »

Tucker Carlson: “Patronizing Assurances That No One Was Spying On Political Campaigns Were False, Probably Intentionally So”

TUCKER CARLSON: According to a new report from CNN, Paul Manafort, who for a time last year was the Trump campaign chairman, was indeed wiretapped by the federal government, both before and after the election. Manafort, it ought to be noted, had an apartment inside Trump Tower at that time, so it is virtually certain that surveillance of him would have included other members of the Trump campaign staff, maybe even Trump himself. In other words, it looks like Trump’s tweet may have been right. So why did three top members of Congress from both parties, and the country’s top law enforcement officers all assure us that the surveillance didn’t happen? That there wasn’t a shred of evidence to suggest it had happened? Were they lying or did tey simply … Read entire article »

James Corbett: “The News” Is A Social Construct, It Is Used To Program You

James Corbett of ‘The Corbett Report’ discusses and dissects the idea of “The News,” and asks questions about who gets to decide what events make the cut. JAMES CORBETT: One of the booby-traps that is implanted in our language is the term: “The News.” As if there is one set of events that we can all universally agree upon are The set of events, “The News” that took place today that everyone must talk about. Think about what that implies. Who gets to choose what is “The News?” And why do we insist on everyone that we consider to be in “The News” sphere to talk about the same set of events? I bring this up because it strikes me that in the event of any “The News” set of events, people … Read entire article »

Trump: “For Years I’ve Been A Critic” Of The United Nations, But Never Denied Its “Tremendous,” “Epic” Potential

The president leads a toast to the United Nations. TRUMP: Well, thank you very much, Mr. Secretary general. I have to say that as someone born in New York and raised in New York, it is a great honor to have the United Nations in New York, and always has been. For years, I’ve been a critic, but I’ve also been somebody that said that the United Nations has tremendous potential. And under your leadership — and I’ve seen what you’ve done, and working with Nikki Haley and all of our her friends — she’s made so many friends. And Rex Tillerson, likewise, has become really a fixture here. We’re working very hard to solve world problems. But there is no better forum, there can be no better forum, and certainly … Read entire article »

UN bureaucrats, MSM scurry to safe space after Trump’s General Assembly speech

**Written by Doug Powers Did you see President Trump’s speech to the U.N. General Assembly? The address was not well-received by many of the gathered bureaucrats, but then again, Trump’s no Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Raul Castro. Here are three parts that brought out the crickets: This caused a few nosebleeds in the General Assembly: He said, “It is a massive source of embarrassment for the United Nations that some governments with egregious human rights records sit on the U.N. Human Rights Council.” The panel’s 47 members include, for example, China and Saudi Arabia. That was a fairly triggering and intimidating experience for many in the room (25 percent applauded, 50 percent shook their heads in disapproval, 15 percent cited it as evidence of climate change, and 10 percent surrendered to Jared Kushner’s security … Read entire article »
