Comedian Dave Smith On The Culture War Between “Team Men vs. Team Women”

‘Joe Rogan Experience’ host Joe Rogan talks about the culture war between “Team Men & Team Women” with comedian Dave Smith:

DAVE SMITH: I’ve heard people, particularly left-wing-leaning feminists –female comics who are feminists… Not by name– But they’ll get very angry. One of them said to me: ‘Dave, your whole thing is that you hate women.’

JOE ROGAN: Aww, that’s adorable.

DAVE SMITH: But, ‘Hate women?’ What are you–?

JOE ROGAN: I saw somebody say that to [fellow comedian] Brian Posehn, you know what he said? It was hilarious: “I’ve heard that before, and every woman who said it, I hated.”

DAVE SMITH: That really is a great response.

JOE ROGAN: Because it is a stupid argument. She was just saying a blanket statement that you hate women. No, I hate you.

DAVE SMITH: I just challenge a lot of people on the left who talk about race, or sexism, or a lot of these things — I just challenge you to entertain the possibility, for like one second, entertain the possibility that you’re not right about all of this stuff, and that the correct position is to treat everybody equal.

I know that sounds really wild, and out-there, and I’m not taking into account my white privilege and the history, but entertain for one second the possibility that the correct answer is to treat everybody equally and not judge them based on their race [or sex].

Because if you entertain that for one second, you’ll start to realize that: “Holy shit, if that is true, I’m really the one being the bigot here.”

I’ve seen this — like at the Roast Battle shows they have down at the [Los Angeles] Comedy Store? They do them in New York too now, they’re really popular. There is this group of female comics who come out –and I don’t begrudge them for this– but they just come out and hardcore root for female comics. They’ll post about just wanting to see more women succeed at Roast Battle, “Coming out tonight to cheer on my girl, blah, blah, blah.”

There will be this dynamic where on their first two jokes they’ll get this ‘Female Voices’ from the corner where the comics hang. Super loud for the chick comic. Whatever. I don’t begrudge them anything, do that. But it is just that those same people who will be like, ‘You’re against Women!’ will [only cheer for women].

I would never, in a million years, go out to a show and say, ‘I’m just rooting for the men today.’

I don’t think this way. I’m not on Team Men. But you are on Team Women.

It seems to me there is a lot of that going on. You project this thing where you see racism everywhere, or you see sexism everywhere, but all I see is you lecturing people based on race and sex.

JOE ROGAN: In their mind, they’re allowed to do that the same way Kenny Velasquez is allowed to have “Brown Pride” on his chest. Kind of the same thing. You’re “disenfranchised” or “marginalized,” so you’re allowed to –even if you’re not– You’re playing that card as a woman, you say, “I’m here to support my girl.”

I was talking about this on stage the other day, I saw a bumper sticker on a car. It said “Girls Kick Ass.” And I was just, like: “Some of them. Some of them are lazy slobs.”

What, are you going to align yourself with 150 million women, just in this country alone?

If a guy had a bumper sticker that said “Boy Kick Ass,” you’d be like: Follow that guy and find out where he’s been f**king these kids. Because, first of all, you would never say “boys.” “Boys kick ass?” Who are you? Where do you live? What do you do for a living? What’s that bumper sticker about? What do you mean by that?

DAVE SMITH: And I feel like an asshole all the time when I have to preface everything with a disclaimer: “I’m not saying this– I’m not–”

But I just want it to be clear, I’m not saying there aren’t exceptions to the rule.
