Sessions: We Need To “Push Back” Constriction of Free Speech On College Campuses

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions appeared on Tucker Carlson’s FOX News show to talk about his initiative to combat suppression of free speech on college campuses. From Tuesday’s edition of Tucker Carlson Tonight: ATTORNEY GENERAL JEFF SESSIONS: We have too much suppression of free and open speech on college campuses today. Particularly conservatives are being silenced in many ways. Controversial speakers are being blocked. You know the veto by the heckler who threatens to protest and disrupt the speech so the college may withdraw the speaker’s invitation so they won’t be a disturbance. These kind of things really threaten the entire educational system in my view—the integrity of it. We have a heritage of free speech. It’s in our Constitution. It’s deeply embedded in … Read entire article »

Betsy DeVos Stands Up for Due Process Rights in Campus Sexual Assault Cases

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced in a speech Thursday that she will roll back an Obama-era “guidance” document that drove colleges to implement Star Chamber-like tribunals to mishandle sexual assault cases. The guidance forced colleges to weaken already minimal due process protections for those accused of rape and sexual assault, and threatened schools that refused to do so with losing federal funding. The Education Department will seek “public feedback and combine institutional knowledge, professional expertise, and the experiences of students to replace the current approach with a workable, effective, and fair system.” DeVos highlighted a proposal by two former prosecutors for states to set up specialized centers with trained professionals for investigation and adjudication of sexual assaults. Another proposal is mandatory reporting of sex crimes to law enforcement as a condition of federal or … Read entire article »

Governors Urge Greater Flexibility for States in Creating and Implementing Health Care Policy

Five governors—representing both parties and from states across the country—told a Senate committee Thursday that inaction on health care is not an option and lawmakers should look to the states for solutions. Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, praised the successes of Obamacare, but said more work needs to be done. “Many people are angry  and have a right to be,” Hickenlooper said during the hearing of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on stabilizing premiums for individuals in the 2018 insurance market. He added: For the 400,000 Coloradans  in the individual marketplace, many continue to struggle. Colorado’s Western  slope—which includes some of our most rural areas—has 14 counties with only one insurer on the exchange. It is also home to some of the highest premiums in the country. As GOP Senators, Governors Pitch Plan to Save Obamacare, White House ‘Can’t Imagine’ Backing Bailout

The White House says it “can’t imagine” supporting an Obamacare bailout, even as some Republican senators and governors are urging boosting federal subsidies to insurance companies to stabilize the endangered Obamacare exchanges. “I can’t imagine that would be something we would want to be involved in,” @PressSec says. The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee will be holding hearings starting next week on ways to maintain the health insurance markets and is expected to consider an increase in subsidies for insurers. Meanwhile, a bipartisan group of governors, led by Ohio’s John Kasich, a Republican, and Colorado’s John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, unveiled a plan calling for Congress to create a temporary fund for states to reimburse insurance companies for major losses. The Daily Signal asked White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders about … Read entire article »

Evidence Suggests Charter Schools in New York City Succeeding With Less Funding

In July, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio made a deal with state legislators: The mayor would retain control of city schools for two more years in exchange for a commitment to increase the number of charter schools. It’s no secret to New Yorkers that de Blasio opposes charter schools—public schools that typically operate independent of traditional school districts—and he has engaged in high-profile efforts to slow charter school growth. But new research suggests that what The New York Times calls his “unwritten concession” on charter schools may work out well for taxpayers and students. According to a new University of Arkansas report, taxpayers in New York City spend $4,888 less per student on public charter schools than district schools. This disparity accounts for “in-kind services” that charter schools receive, such as sharing … Read entire article »

How Trump Can Avoid Getting Bogged Down While Draining the Swamp

Military veterans, trying to get medical care or other services, face a maze of subagencies in the Department of Veterans Affairs. And that’s just one of many reasons for making the federal government more efficient, policy experts say. “The VA has 42 different offices, including 14 specifically related to health,” said Rachel Greszler, research fellow in economics, budget, and entitlements with The Heritage Foundation. “These things just create a bureaucratic nightmare for veterans who are seeking integrated services, one stop to go to for all of their needs as opposed to 42 different offices, [and the veteran] responsible for taking documentation from one to another,” Greszler added Tuesday during a panel discussion at the think tank’s Capitol Hill headquarters. Also on the panel were an official from the first administration of President Ronald … Read entire article »

This Nationwide Program Is Teaching Millions of Students to Become Leftist Snowflakes

Parents beware: A program called Challenge Day that applauds a culture of victimhood is planting the leftist agenda into young minds under the guise of anti-bullying education. The program uses the power of peer pressure and groupthink to impress upon high school students the idea that everyone is a victim. Challenge Day is no small initiative. According to the program’s website, it has been held at more than 2,200 high schools nationwide and reached millions of students. Challenge Day purports to teach tolerance and acceptance, yet nearly every member of its board of directors and Global Leadership Council is politically left of center. Of the 17 members of Challenge Day’s board of directors, 15 openly support leftist leaders and causes, and two have an unknown affiliation, according to Federal Election Commission records and personal social media accounts. Of their 22-person … Read entire article »

Communistic Venezuela, Where Barack Obama and the Deep State Are Still Moving America!

Socialism in America Barack Obama and his Socialistic agenda are still active even after the defeat of Hillary Clinton. He has used the Socialistic arm of the American media in outlets like MSNBC and CNN to bring about change. The Obama administration spied on America citizens and unmasked American citizens just like any other Socialistic / Communistic leader would do. I never understood as the Obama administration would enact laws or executive orders that never made sense. This … Read entire article »

The Democratic party of today is the party of American Socialism by Chris Maley

More people in America need to wake up to what is happening to them from their elected officials and the deep state of our federal government. The Democratic party of the past no longer exists. Today, it is the party of American Socialism. It follows the guidelines and direction almost 100% set forth from Saul Alinsky in his books, Rules for Radicals and Reveille for Radicals. Hillary Clinton wrote her college thesis paper on Saul Alinsky … Read entire article »

18 States Sue Betsy DeVos Over Delayed Regulation Enforcement. Why the Delay Is a Good Thing.

Under the banner of student loan borrower protection, the Obama administration placed significant regulations on institutions of higher education. The most egregious of which is called “borrower defense to repayment,” which opens the door for students to claim that their university was fraudulent for virtually any reason. If the school is found guilty of defrauding a student, which does not require proof that a school intended to commit fraud, a student can have his student loans discharged. Under the leadership of Secretary Betsy DeVos, the Department of Education has delayed the enforcement of this rule, which was set to go into effect July 1. The District of Columbia, along with 18 other states, have now filed a lawsuit against the Department of Education, claiming that this delayed action is illegal. The delay of this … Read entire article »

School-Based Health Services and Medicaid in Context: A Better Way to Pay

Congressional efforts to reform health care include capping federal funding and streamlining Medicaid to refocus it on its original, neediest recipients and slow the rate of growth for what has become an expensive, unrestricted entitlement threatening the future of the safety net for those in greatest need. Yet critics argue that such efforts would adversely impact low-income schools, which in some cases tap into Medicaid for reimbursements for certain health care-related costs, such as school nurses and other health care professionals, and equipment for children with special needs. Critics charge that limits on Medicaid would “put schools in competition with hospitals and doctors’ offices for coveted funds—a shift they say that’s sure to leave them short-changed.” But the health care reform proposal making its way through Congress does not actually prescribe any reductions … Read entire article »

March for Life Wants Justice Department to Investigate Planned Parenthood

The March for Life, along with over a dozen other organizations, signed a letter released Tuesday asking Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI acting Director Andrew McCabe to investigate Planned Parenthood’s involvement in the selling of fetal tissue. “We, the undersigned representing millions of Americans, strongly support an investigation into paid fetal tissue transfers involving Planned Parenthood,” the signers write. The letter is prompted by the work of David Daleiden, an investigative journalist who founded the Center for Medical Progress, a nonprofit organization of “citizen journalists dedicated to monitoring and reporting on medical ethics and advances.” As part of his work, “Daleiden recorded doctors, executives, and staff-level employees discussing various aspects of the fetal tissue procurement industry,” the signers write. Daleiden and a contractor hired by Center for Medical Progress, Sandra Merritt, are … Read entire article »

Judicial Watch Sues State Department, USAID for Documents on Funding to Soros’ Foreign Campaigns

Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against the Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development for records on funding awarded to George Soros’ Open Society Foundation-Albania, the conservative nonprofit watchdog announced Wednesday. The suit was filed May 26 after both government agencies failed to respond to Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act requests. The requests sought records related to contracts, grants, and any other funding that the State Department and USAID awarded to the Foundation Open Society-Albania. The requests also sought communications between the agencies and the foundation. “This is our second FOIA lawsuit to uncover the truth about the scandal of Obama administration’s siphoning tax dollars to the Soros operations in Europe,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “We hope and expect the Trump administration to finally let … Read entire article »

The Education Budget Has a Lot to Love and a Little to Critique

The Trump administration’s full budget for education for fiscal year 2018 would make some long-overdue cuts at the Department of Education. The proposal targets reductions in spending totaling $9 billion—a 13 percent cut in the agency’s current $68 billion annual budget. That type of reduction signals a serious commitment to reducing federal intervention in education—a necessary condition to make space for a restoration of state and local control. Program Eliminations and Spending Reductions The budget proposal includes actual reductions in spending and program count. As Andrew Ujifusa at Education Week reported, it would be the largest single-year percentage cut in the department’s discretionary budget since President Ronald Reagan’s 1983 budget proposal. In recognition that many federal education programs are better supported—and appropriately supported—by state and local as well as private funds, the budget would … Read entire article »

13 Ways Trump Has Rolled Back Government Regulations in His First 100 Days

As President Donald Trump reaches his 100th day in the White House on April 29, he will have worked with Congress to rescind more regulations using the Congressional Review Act than any other president. “We’re excited about what we’re doing so far. We’ve done more than that’s ever been done in the history of Congress with the CRA,” Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., told The Daily Signal in an interview, referring to the law called the Congressional Review Act. The Congressional Review Act, the tool Trump and lawmakers are using to undo these regulations, allows Congress to repeal executive branch regulations in a certain window of time. “Under the Congressional Review Act, Congress is given 60 legislative days to disapprove a rule and receive the president’s signature, after which the rule goes into effect,” … Read entire article »

After State Department Snub, Senators Look to ‘Other Means’ to Investigate Tax Dollars Propping Up Soros Work

This article has been corrected and updated since publication. Details about changes are at the end of article. Republican senators could investigate U.S. tax dollars funding liberal billionaire George Soros’ networks abroad “through other means” if the Trump administration’s State Department doesn’t provide answers. Six GOP senators wrote Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in March to ask for a State Department probe into how the federal grants are being used by Soros-funded Open Society Foundations, specifically in Macedonia, to promote progressive causes and undermine conservative and moderate political leaders in those countries. The State Department Bureau of Legislative Affairs responded not by addressing the question of a probe, but defending the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID. Sens. Mike Lee of Utah, James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Ted Cruz of Texas, Bill Cassidy … Read entire article »

Trump Budget Plan Curbs Federal Intervention in Higher Education

Trump Budget Plan Curbs Federal Intervention in Higher Education

The Trump administration’s proposed budget blueprint for 2018 significantly cuts waste in federal higher education spending. For decades, the federal government has increased spending on higher education programs with not much to show for it—other than higher tuition prices. Today, American students and taxpayers are in bad shape when it comes to college costs. The U.S. has $1.3 trillion in outstanding student loan debt, most recent graduates are not paying off their loans, and taxpayers are projected … Read entire article »

Trump’s Responsible Decision to End an After-School Program That Harms Children

President Donald Trump has clear justification for his recommendation to eliminate a $1.2 billion after-school program administered by the Department of Education. Rigorous scientific evidence shows that the program, called 21st Century Community Learning Centers, harms children. Advocates of evidence-based policy should applaud the president’s fiscally responsible decision, part of his fiscal year 2018 budget request. The role of the federal government in funding after-school programs increased substantially after Congress passed the Improving America’s School Act of 1994, which created 21st Century Community Learning Centers. Congress wanted to open up local schools so that communities could use the space more extensively beyond normal hours. The after-school program was intended to “support continuing education and lifelong learning opportunities to children and adults to help keep the country’s workforce competitive for the 21st century.” In 1998, … Read entire article »
