When did the FBI become the FBO?
Rather than allow Congress to pursue its oversight responsibilities, the Federal Bureau of Investigation continues to stonewall. It spent last month refusing to comply with a subpoena to turn over a whistleblower file alleging a $5 million bribe offer made to then–Vice President Joe Biden in exchange for policy considerations.
Director Christopher Wray now at least acknowledges the existence of such a file. He still refuses to turn it over. But in an effort to feign compliance, he indicates he will allow Rep. James Comer to come to the FBI to look at the material.
One wonders if a Stepford Rep. James Cloner will emerge from the monstrous J. Edgar Hoover Building.
People elected Comer. Nobody elected Wray. Why does he act as though the opposite were true?
“Today, FBI Director Wray confirmed the existence of the FD-1023 form alleging then-Vice President Biden engaged in a criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national,” Comer said in a statement released Wednesday. “However, Director Wray did not commit to producing the documents subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee. While Director Wray – after a month of refusing to even acknowledge that the form existed – has offered to allow us to see the documents in person at FBI headquarters, we have been clear that anything short of producing these documents to the House Oversight Committee is not in compliance with the subpoena. If the FBI fails to hand over the FD-1023 form as required by the subpoena, the House Oversight Committee will begin contempt of Congress proceedings.”
