The Center for Reproductive Rights announced today that Kate Cox has left the state of Texas to obtain an abortion after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a statement that he would prosecute Dr. Damla Karsan or anyone who performed the dilation-and-evacuation abortion allowed by Travis County District Court Judge Maya Guerra Gamble.

The Center for Reproductive Rights released the statement on X saying, “UPDATE: After a week of legal whiplash and threats of prosecution from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, our client Kate Cox has been forced to flee her home state of Texas to get the time-sensitive abortion care needed to protect her health and future fertility.”

The update on Cox comes after Paxton told the Texas Supreme Court, “Future criminal and civil proceedings cannot restore the life that is lost if Plaintiffs or their agents proceed to perform and procure an abortion in violation of Texas law,” and the court placed a hold on the Travis County District Court ruling.
