Former President Donald Trump won the South Carolina GOP primary Saturday night, beating Nikki Haley by over 20 percentage points. The Associated Press called the race at 7 p.m. and declared Trump the winner. With 98 percent of the votes counted, Trump had 59.8 percent (451,905 votes) and Haley had 39.5 percent (298,681 votes).

Trump stated in his victory speech, “This was a little sooner than we anticipated, it was an even bigger win than we anticipated and I was just informed that we got double the number of votes that has ever been received in the great state of South Carolina.”

After her loss, Haley stated on X, “I’m a woman of my word. I’m not giving up this fight when a majority of Americans disapprove of both Trump and Biden. In the next 10 days, 21 states and territories will speak. They have the right to a real choice, not a Soviet-style election with only one candidate. And I have a duty to give them that choice.”
