Is according to Lauren Chen who is a host of a popular YouTube channel under her own name we speak with Chen about how modern education modern entertainment and even peer pressure are causing young girls to make poor decisions they often regret later in life and we discuss her own work to
Educate others which is how people live more happily and develop healthier relationships Lauren Chen thanks for being on Crossroads thank you for having me it’s good to be here so Lauren I was actually watching some of your YouTube shows you appreciate it by the way you do some
Good stuff you do a lot more like cultural commentary and commentary on like Traditional Values which you know again we’re at turning point right now I I think among the youth it’s usually that kind of stuff that turns them away from conservativism yeah but you found a
Good way to bridge this though because I think what you do is you you bridge you you bridge it to the point we’re not talking about like strict moral values like this is what the book says you’re saying this is what makes you happy which is a totally different way of
Seeing it actually and I I know with myself and people like people I grew up with like lived experience would tell you that tradition actually has something to teach us about this that it exists for a reason right that the lifestyles being promoted on TV and like Tick Tock are not necessarily enjoyable
And it’s really like kind of a I think what you get it is it’s kind of like a big deception explain this to us so I think young people like any of us really don’t like to be preached at and I think if you’re gonna try to approach cultural
Issues from do this because I said so and because that’s the way it’s always been you’re not going to find a lot of success especially among teens and and I guess even young adults right but the thing with like you’re saying Traditional Values is that there is a
Reason for them there is a logic behind them so what I love to do and what I find effective is we can look at what type of values are being promoted across pop culture things like social media and Tick Tock and actually picking apart like hey do these people look happy to
You does this look like a well-adjusted and stable person because nine times out of ten if not more the answer is no right they’re blue you don’t you don’t say these people don’t look like they have everything figured out and so seeing as how clearly this lifestyle
Isn’t working I find it you know it’s actually constructive and you’re trying to help you by saying okay so then what does work and why does that work let’s pick apart the actual reasoning behind something like saying no to promise cutie let’s talk about this like the I
Guess the safety issues behind us going home with anyone you might meet at a club or a bar do people go to Raves anymore I don’t even know I’m too old for that but you know let’s talk about how to actually help these young people live a healthier and better life instead
Of just trying to tell them what to do and I think people are a lot more receptive to that because they understand it comes from a different place than just trying to control let’s get into that you know um there’s a website that I know my wife
Reads and I’ve actually read some stuff too Evie magazine I love Evie Mac they’re actually really good I I have a daughter I hope one day she reads it too but you know it gets into some topics on maybe I mean just some of the sexual Revolution and so on that the difference
Is maybe between men and women that you can’t and Jordan Peterson talks about this a lot that even though people these days kind of buy the whole game of the sexual Revolution that somehow it’s sold to us in movies it sold to us through you know entertainment that this is
Desirable those who live it and those who engage in it find that it makes them really depressed nine nine times out of ten like people who live that are not happy no no and you know EV magazine gets into some of the science around it
Of how women who engage in like you know the hookup culture are miserable and make it scientifically even if they believe they like it just biologically they don’t no it’s absolutely true and there’s a science behind it you know all the hormone levels that go into something like sex your body is telling
You oh this is someone I should be mating with bonding with but when you’re actually only doing something in in the the context of hooking up it does play with your emotions right depression among women has never been higher and you look at the antidepressants and so
On it’s it’s really the rates of people under really terrible yeah but go ahead I’m not saying this to shame women I point out these things because I want to help women right and that’s really what it’s about feminism has sold a lie to women uh telling them that it’s
Empowering to sleep around that it’s not going to hurt you of course it is you know you don’t know this these guys that you’re sleeping with you deserve to be respected and treated better right that’s empowering and I don’t understand how feminists can say like oh yeah in
Order to stick it to the patriarchy sleep with all these men because they’ll definitely hate that like just think about it logically for a second it doesn’t make any sense so I know Evie magazine is great and kind of laying out to women how they’ve been lied to and I
Also want to say if you’re a guy hookup culture is no better for you either we’ve seen how the metoo movement has kind of turned even something like regret into a rape accusation so basically for everybody out there regardless of Jen regardless of age I would say like be careful with yourself
You deserve respect and a loving relationship someone to I guess treat you fondly and that’s not what hookup culture is about
