Former Somali PM: Ilhan Omar’s Interests Are Somalia and Its People

In what appears to be more evidence that Democratic U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar, the Somali Muslim refugee who represents the 5th District of Minnesota, is a foreign agent, a viral video shows the former prime minister of her homeland saying exactly that.

Speaking at a campaign rally for the disgraced congresswoman, Hassan Ali Khaire said a vote for Omar is a vote for Somalia. And Omar’s interests in Congress, he continued, are not those of her constituents. Instead, her interests are Somalia and its people.

The translation of his remarks is unverified. But they are in keeping with that Omar herself has said. Those remarks include her claim that the president of Somalia is her real leader.

Upshot of Khaire’s remarks: Omar works for us. She’s ours.

The Video

Khaire’s message was blunt and unmistakable. Ilhan Omar, he said, is working for the interests of a foreign government; this is the third time such sentiments have gone viral.

“The interests of Ilhan are not Ilhan’s,” the former prime minister said. “It’s not the interest of Minnesota. Nor is it the interest of the American people.”

Then he explained just what Omar’s interests truly are:

The interests of Ilhan is that of Somalian people and Somalia. The success of Ilhan is the success of Somalia, and that carries a heavy meaning to us. Speaking in the name of the Somalian people, everywhere they are on the planet, I am asking that you support and give money to Ilhan’s campaign, to support her with your votes. Tell your neighbors and friends and anyone you know to come out and support Ilhan Omar so they can ultimately vote for her. And knock every door for her so that she can be re-elected. What is your promise? Your promise is to come shoulder-to-shoulder and be Ilhan’s shield and vote for her again. … Long live Somalia.

Omar stood to Khaire’s left as he explained — again, if the translation from Somaliland National TV is accurate — that she works for Somalian interests.

Replied GOP Representative Max Miller (Ohio) over a repost of the video, “Exactly. No argument here. Ilhan Omar is not interested in what’s right for America.”

Previous Remarks

Previous viral video recorded Omar’s making similar remarks about herself.

In January, the ambassador from Somaliland, an unrecognized, self-governing nation that declared independence from Somalia, translated her remarks about an election in Puntland.

We are “people of the same blood … who know they are Somalians first, Muslims second, who protect one another, who come to each other’s aid to the aid of other Muslims, too,” she said. “The U.S. Government will only do what Somalians in the U.S. tell them to do. They will do what we want and nothing else.”

But that was just the beginning. Omar bluntly explained that she’s in Congress to protect Somalia’s interests:

We Somalians must have the confidence in ourselves that we call for the shots in the U.S. We live in the U.S., pay taxes in the U.S., and have a real voice. The U.S. is a country where one of your daughters (myself) is in Congress to represent your interest. For as long as I am in the U.S. Congress, Somalia will never be in danger, its waters will not be stolen by Ethiopia or others. The U.S. would not dare to support anyone against Somalia to steal our land or oceans.

Sleep in comfort, knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system. The woman you sent to Congress is working day and night to protect your interest. She knows your plight and that of Somalia.

Omar called the translation “slanted.”

Fellow U.S. Representative Tom Emmer (R) of Minnesota demanded an ethics investigation. GOP Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wanted more.

“Expel from Congress, denaturalize and deport!” he wrote on X.

Who Is Omar’s President?

In December 2022, Omar said she works for Somalia’s president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud when he visited Minnesota. The comments strongly suggested that she is an American citizen legally only, and that she still considers herself a Somali. He is, she said, “our president.”

“I am very honored to have the chance that our president, president of Somalia, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, let us give him a warm welcome, Minnesota!” she said.

She’s tight as tick with the president, her “uncle,” indeed, and Somalia is her real home:

The president and I have a special relationship. I call him uncle and he calls me his girl. Welcome to your home. Our home is your home. Welcome to Minneapolis. We are very happy that Hassan is our president. Somalia is our home. It is home to all the people gathered here. We do not feel that it is far from us. Somalia is our heart. It is in our hearts. We always think about Somalia.

A few days after her remarks about “our president” Mohamud, the Voice of America reported her remarks at a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre in Mogadishu:

Our country and our religion have been associated with terrorism [because] of the dishonor [al-Shabaab] brought on us. We have to get rid of them as Somalis and as Muslims and pray and support each other in that work.

Omar’s election to Congress was made possible by U.S. refugees, which allowed Somalis to establish a beachhead in Minneapolis and take over the city’s Democratic machine.

It is also a recruiting center for Somali terrorists. In January, Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a Somali al-Shabaab member in the city.

Other Controversies

Omar has been an embarrassment for Democrats since she landed in office — and even before, as The New American has reported in multiple stories.

Two years before she was elected in 2019, she said the American GIs who fought Somali warlord Mohammed Farah Aidid were terrorists.

She married her brother, credible reports say, to commit immigration and student-loan fraud. And in a blatant form of self-dealing and ripping off campaign contributors, her campaign paid a small fortune to the political consultancy of her husband. After helping wreck the marriage of that consultant, Tim Mynett, she shacked up with and then married him.

She was also accused of voter fraud.
