Former President Donald Trump survived a second assassination attempt earlier today while golfing at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The U.S. Secret Service (USSS) advance team protecting Trump identified a man armed with an AK-pattern rifle near the golf course at around 2 p.m. EST. The security detail reportedly fired at the gunman, causing him to flee on I-95 before he was apprehended and taken into custody by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
In a statement released on X, USSS Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi confirmed Trump was safe following the assassination attempt:
The Secret Service, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a protective incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2 p.m. The former president is safe. @pbso will have more details soon.
Republican vice-presidential candidate Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said he spoke with Trump following the attempt, stating on X:
I’m glad President Trump is safe. I spoke to him before the news was public and he was, amazingly, in good spirits. Still much we don’t know, but I’ll be hugging my kids extra tight tonight and saying a prayer of gratitude.
Donald Trump Jr. responded on X to the second assassination attempt against his father:
Again folks! SHOTS FIRED at Trump Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida. An AK-47 was discovered in the bushes, per local law enforcement. The Trump campaign has released a statement confirming former President Trump is safe. A suspect has reportedly been apprehended.
