Confronted about the United Nations’ involvement in genetic engineering of life on Earth, two senior UN officials acknowledged concerns but denied that their organization was directly involved other than in coming up with biosafety oversight. Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity Astrid Schomaker and UN Environment Programme Information Officer David Ainsworth recognized the concerns and explained that the subject would be a topic of discussion at the upcoming UN COP for biodiversity in Colombia.
