politics is a gift for the people of God to be able to express God’s will I explain how it happened that the American Church said oh oh we don’t do politics where did you get that idea not from scripture we’ve got to have a heroic Christianity that moves out into the Public Square when people say like listen we’re under judgment it’s over there’s nothing I can do that’s the voice of the devil one of our founding father says it does not take a majority to Prevail but rather a tireless irate minority keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men Eric we often hear the phrase uh don’t talk about religion or politics that that’ll get you in trouble in and and you know ruin the party except when we don’t talk about religion and politics and we see the relationship we see what happened in Germany in the 1930s talk to us just for a moment about the parallels you see between the American church and the German Church in the 30s well I talk about this in in both of these books so letter of the American church and the new book religionless Christianity basically my friend it is this um every Christian and by the way we are the church it’s not about that building or this building or this denomination we’re the church we um we may say well I know the Bible I read the Bible but are you interpreting it correctly Christians can often misinterpret parts of it or kind of drift with the culture that’s what happened in Germany they got so fixated on Evangel ISM or on doing church that when God called them to live out their faith heroically uh which comes with a cost you might lose a job you might lose a gig uh whatever they said you know no no no uh Romans 13 Luther I wrote a book about Luther he’s big on Romans 13 we’re supposed to do whatever the government says we’re supposed to do it’s a good witness wrong sometimes it is a very very bad witness and you have to have the wisdom to know when is it the right thing to do and when is it the wrong thing because the Bible’s not open and shut I mean there’s Romans 13 and then there’s all kinds of stuff in the Bible that says we’re supposed to stand against an evil regime and against uh laws that are not God’s laws so the the the new book religionless Christianity shows us what these religious Idols are in other words they’re not we’re not worshiping God we’re worshiping a religious Idol that’s what happened to the German Church they basically substituted doing Church uh talking about God quote unquote preaching the gospel for doing what God was calling them to do sometimes Jesus didn’t just preach the gospel so when the Lord calls you to do that you do that but when the Lord calls you to stand against evil and wickedness Bon Hoffer says the church was supposed to be the conscience of the state the German Church said n we don’t want to bother we don’t want to get controversial that ultimately is what the much in the American Church much of the American church has been deeply guilty of this especially in the last four years I’m so glad glad you brought up Romans 13 that’s such a controversial uh passage of scripture and and so much of the church has done exactly what you’ve said they they they’ve sort of used that as a convenient excuse to not live out their faith heroically by saying well we’re supposed to obey the government but it is also Romans 13 that says what you said which is that the king is supposed to be a servant of the Lord for the good of the people that right there gives us justification for the just War Theory which our founding fathers understood and the whole Revolutionary War was technically in some people’s minds a violation of Romans 13 not obeying the king in England however these were biblicists who did this on biblical principles because of the other part of Romans 13 and the other thing Eric which I find so uh amazing is that we’ve been blessed with the inheritance of a form of government where the king is not a person or an oligarchy in America it’s We the People The Sovereign is actually us they’re our Representatives not even our leaders they have been assigned to do the bidding of The Sovereign who is us as the citizens and as the church if we don’t get that we’re going right back to bondage and slavery to the state well that that’s why to me the nightmare of the American Church being guilty of what the German church is it’s so bad because the German Church you could see had some excuse they didn’t have Patriots die in a revolution so that we the people could could govern Germany they were a little confused about it we don’t have that excuse right we have by God’s grace and people have to understand it’s only by the Lord’s Grace that we live in a country where we the people we are the king the Lord has deputized us to govern ourselves to elect leaders that honor him that honor his principles when we get pushed away from that and when the church goes along with that we are more guilty than the German church so of what happened because of the silence and inactivity of the German Church in the 30s thinking they’re doing the Lord’s will and they’re not that has been happening in America and I have tried to sound the Clarion call um in your book Eric you also use a phrase mere religion just opposed uh I think it’s just opposed against religionless Christianity what is mere religion well I guess what I’m trying to say you know I’m being a little um intentionally uh provocative ative because we know that True Religion real religion is good but Bon Hofer uh following if you read my bonhof book you know he was a disciple to some extent of Carl Bart and Carl Bart identifies what we really would see as dead religion right in other words being religious in the way that that the Jewish religious leaders were religious right they tithed their uh herbs they did everything right they knew the Bible backwards and forwards and when God shows up in human inform they murder him what is more satanic than having all the religious trappings looking right knowing your scripture knowing all this stuff and when push comes to shove you serve Satan’s purposes that’s the scariest thing and and and somehow people in the American Church don’t understand that Christians can be just as guilty of this as the religious leaders in Jesus’s day and Jesus preaches against dead religion that he he he is so strong against the most religious people he doesn’t rail against helenistic philosophy against paganism he doesn’t he rails against the religious leaders being Hypocrites and for us to think that that’s not happening now I’m very sorry to say it is happening it happened in Germany in the 30s and it led to the nightmare of the Holocaust we are there now in the American church and every person who says I’m a Christian you’re on the hook folks because you are the church and the Lord is calling you really to be the church and to avoid these religious idols and that’s why in religionless Christianity I point up what are the religious Idols that many of us have been wittingly or unwittingly worshiping in place of worshiping the lord it’s a scary thing but I want to encourage people I don’t think the Lord would have called me to write these books unless uh the Lord has hope that his will will be done but it’s it’s up to the church he actually gives us the opportunity to do it but he doesn’t Force us Eric you also referenced Bon hofer’s distinction between costly Grace and cheap Grace explain that to us yeah well this is a big one and this is kind of where the title of the book religionist Christianity comes from because a lot of times you know you talk about what are the shortcuts that Christians make sometimes the shortcut is like oh I need to know the Bible I know the Bible well no you need to know the Bible because you need to live the Bible just knowing the Bible you don’t really get credit for knowing the Bible if you know it and then live it the only reason you’re supposed to know it memorize it get get to know the word of God is so you can live it out so there are a lot of people that kind of get stuck on the theology part like I know the theology I know I’m supposed to believe this and this and this and this well you are supposed to live out your faith Jesus is really clear about that it’s like don’t impress me with your theology because all the religious leaders of his day were theologically brilliant and then when the time came they sered the devil’s purposes so it’s something that is very real for us today to look for a Pious shortcut a religious shortcut and so cheap Grace is Bon hofer’s usage of I mean that’s his term it’s like you say I’m saved by grace I’m saved by grace I’m saved by grace and he’s like well yeah you’re saved by grace are you aware of the cost of Grace you make it sound like everything’s cool I’m saved by grace Jesus died on a Roman cross like if you really understand that by faith really don’t just claim it you’re going to live totally differently you’re going to live heroically you’re going to live the way boner lived if you really believe it but if you’re living by Cheap Grace if your faith is shallow you’re not fooling God because he sees your actions and by the way the devil sees your actions and he’s thrilled that you know all the Theology and are not living it out so it’s some chilling stuff and I I feel uh it’s as important now as it has ever been in our lifetime uh for sure for sure Eric tell us what is the church missing out on if it continues to live out this this this uh Theology of cheap Grace what could it be like if we really leaned into costly Grace well listen that’s the wonderful news it’s at the end of the book I say without you know because a lot of times people say well give us some hope I’m not going to give you hope if there’s no real hope but there is real hope I believe firmly that it is the Lord’s will that we not just do the right thing to avert a nightmare but that we do the right thing heroically living out our faith to avert a nightmare and live out our faith in such a way that many of us can’t even dream about right now I think about the Reformation try to think about before the Reformation Faith was kind of like in a cage uh you know the Corr it was a corrupt church at the time and all kinds of fear-based stuff or whatever could people even dream then if we we live out our faith what might it lead to well in the case of Luther it leads to the faith bursting out into every part of society it leads to the to the formation of the United States of America where people can govern themselves can we dream today if we in this moment in history live out our faith not just about avoiding the horror of of something like the Holocaust and and a a globalist over and that would be enough to motivate what would happen What would well of course it would but I actually believe it’s the Lord’s will that we would have to quote Lincoln a new birth of Freedom that we would see a level of Revival and Reformation that honestly none of us has really dreamt of that’s my sense okay this is how you talk about church and politics marrying one another and working together for human flourishing Eric uh for those who are just joining in right now would you just recap quickly for us what is the definition of religionless Christianity well it’s the the ugliest title of any book I’ve ever but I had to use it because it’s a bon Hofer phrase and Bon hoofer just to give the context he was in prison the the church had failed and he’s in prison in 1944 so it’s the end of the war it’s the year before he dies and he writes to his best friend saying in a sense how did this happen how did the church fail in Germany and he answers his own question he says what we needed was a religionless Christianity in other words not just dead religion not just oh we’re just going to preach the gospel and due church and keep our mouth shut on issues of culture and politics whatever no no no no we’re going to live our faith out in every sphere as the scripture commands us to do to love our neighbors by living out our faith in every way possible and oftentimes that means being political I mean if slavery is on the is on the ballot you don’t say well I don’t want to be political I’m not taking a side there of course you take aide true Christians we were abolitionists true Christians stand up and if it becomes political it becomes political William wilver Force led the battle to end the slave trade in the British Empire as a politician the Lord often uses politics so Bon Hofer at the end of his life in prison saying how do we get here and he’s saying we needed a religionless Christianity now instead of just the trappings doing church and and doing the church stuff we needed to live out our faith and so he calls it religionless Christianity in other words don’t fool me with your liturgies and your hyns and yeah live out your faith live it out in every sphere that’s what the Lord calls you to do it’s what Jesus called us to do in his day and oftentimes it means being political oftentimes politics is a gift for the people of God to be able to express God’s Will and so ultimately that’s what religionless Christianity is it really just means true actual Christianity this makes so much sense Eric that’s exactly right when you just said that it reminded me of of the fact that politics is actually a gift from God politics isn’t some dirty secular thing that Christians should stay out of when he gave Noah the command to uh Institute civil government it was a gift to curb evil and capital punishment was now a thing so look at this politics is a gift from God to help us to put offense around evil and keep it away um I I think also of church like you just said it’s great to have the smells and bells and we can enjoy the stained glass windows and the Liturgy but like in my marriage if I just love the the the dress and the tuxedo and I like all the benefits of marriage but I don’t live it out heroically as a husband and provide for and protect my wife what good am I and the same in the church we’ve got to live out our faith heroically to Champion the truth to honor God and to love and and protect our neighbors Eric what do you say to the to the Christian I’m talking about the the the the the me member of the family of Faith here who says you know what I I I understand what you’re saying you’re you’re saying that we that there is hope that God can give us the victory even though things look terrible but they say but but look I read Revelation and and I read Daniel and I’m thinking and my pastor’s telling me this is all how the whole thing supposed to fall into place for the return of Jesus and at this rate he’s coming back by Thursday so what’s the point of trying to make a giant turnaround of this ship when we’re all about to go over the falls and we’re going to get out of here what do you say to them when people say like listen we’re under judgment it’s over there’s nothing I can do that’s the voice of the devil you’re supposed to do whatever you can do and you let the Lord decide what if the Lord wants an Endtime Revival what if the Lord wants to to bless us mightily as we go toward the end times to to say that it’s over is to be yourselves the handmaidens of evil that’s what happens a lot of times the church gets into this posture You could argue that since the Jesus Revolution since 1970 the church has said yeah we’re not going to get involved in politics it’s all about salvation the Lord’s coming in any many minute and and by not acting you have let things get worse and worse and worse and people are suffering so that’s a fatalistic idea I actually deal with that in the book I talk about the idol of fatalism it’s a religious Idol it sounds so good oh I love the word the word says it’s going to be over the Antichrist is coming Jesus is coming minutes so you have religious excuses for doing nothing if the Lord says to do nothing that’s one thing I do not believe by the holy spirit that we are being called to do nothing right now and I and I I wrote the book both books as a warning to the church because I think that that’s wrong I think that pastors that are saying that it’s over it’s going to be over in five minutes I don’t think so I know we’re near the end but what are we supposed to do right now and when is the end that is not clear and people who are super clear about this I want to be clear in saying I think that they’re mistaken and I humbly uh lovingly say please take that seriously well Eric I I I I think what you’re saying is so important because it makes me go back 500 years and I think about the time just before the the reformation and I think if those guys if Luther if those guys just like you had said whoever never could have even thought what could have possibly have what could they have imagined what was possible in the midst of everything that was going on during those ages where there was no Liberty there was no opportunity and you know what they were in the end times too but guess what they were in the end times of they were in the end times of religious prison holding down the truth and they actually broke out through the reformation and had a whole new beginning of Liberty and and I think that revivals because they often come during times of political corruption and moral Decline and spiritual aathy and economic collapse we’re teed up for one right now and this could be the very beginning of a whole new era not just in America I don’t know where the spirit is going to move it’s it’s going big time in South America and in Africa and even in China there is massive moves of the spirit and so I think that you are absolutely right people who think Jesus coming in the next five minutes and use that as an excuse to throw in the towel are serving the devil’s purposes in in the in the book letter to the American church I explain how it happened that the American Church said oh oh we don’t do politics where did you get that idea not from scripture um but I explain that in the book because it’s often it’s it’s important for us to understand how this happened that Christians bought this idea as though it’s biblical that I’m not supposed to be involved in politics because if you believe it’s biblical you’re all in and I’m here to say excuse me it’s not biblical the scripture counsels us uh in many many ways to do everything we can to live out our faith including the IAL which I’ve already said but how we got there I’m not going to say it now but that’s an amazing story because it was the abdication of the role of the church over decades starting in the 50s uh and and exactly how we got to the point that everybody seems to think like Oh Yeah from the pulpit we don’t do politics I’m thinking that’s not biblical that’s a problem yeah yeah it is so important that people get a hold of what you’re saying we’ve got to have a heroic Christianity that moves out into the Public Square starts at home I I’ve got to Heaven eyes my own heart my home through the Holy Spirit trusting and obeying God’s promises and his commands and then move out into the culture and use every gift and Tool God has given us to bring Heaven to Earth public schools libraries um civil government uh churches or seminaries all of this is is critical for a thriving culture one of our founding fathers says it does not take a majority to Prevail but rather a tireless irate minority keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men Eric this is so so true I think the Lord uses a small group sometimes even one person a a Praying Mother who who who then leans in with all of her heart to the purposes of God reaching out to people with heroic faith and it ignites something in her child or it ignites something in her her family and that spreads across a college campus and ends up into a full-blown Revival this is what we need this is the kind of true Christianity that we need Eric in in these last moments that we have together talk talk about what bold Faith looks like for the everyday person talk about how bold Faith doesn’t need to be in the form of abolishing slavery like wilburforce or writing a book like Bon Hofer or uh confronting drag queens in the American Library Association it’s the everyday stuff what can people do to be heroic in their faith at home well every single person of course is different so it’s not a one-size fits all thing every one of us has different opportunities uh every one of us has different talents and so you simply have to say Lord use me because if everybody will use whatever platform God’s given you it might be tiny it might be large that’s in God’s hands but if you’ll use your platform to speak the truth lovingly there are many many people watching and they’re saying thank you thank you you have emboldened me to speak up I was thinking the same thing but I didn’t know could I bring it up could I say it and so uh if everybody will use use his voice each person for God’s purposes when you have the opportunity uh it could be a Schoolboard meeting it could be a a private family dinner the Lord wants to use us so it it doesn’t matter everything I mean I wrote both these books in a way to help people to fire them up and to give them Clarity and so obviously I hope people will read the books or study them in in church small groups because people need to know what does Scripture really say and we have an opportunity this is an amazing opport people always think like oh you know if I was living in Bon hofer’s day you are the Lord has called you now to step up and the same way he called the church to step up then will you do it now it’s easy to say I would have done it then will you do it now that’s that’s what these books are about it’s for every single person and I want to say I’m I’m encouraged because I see people waking up every day I get letters you know long story short I have a lot of Hope brother I’m so encouraged by you I thank God for you and I hope everybody gets the book religionless Christianity and reads it thanks for joining us

The Constitutional Perspective: Why Free Speech is Non-Negotiable

The First Amendment of the United States Constitution is crystal clear: “Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech.” The Founding Fathers understood the importance of free speech in preserving a free society. Without it, the ability to challenge government, expose corruption, and advocate for truth would be crushed.

Yet today, under the guise of protecting people from “misinformation” and “hate speech,” powerful institutions are curbing our ability to express ideas that do not conform to their narratives.

Do we not see this as a slippery slope toward authoritarianism?

Shouldn’t we, as citizens, be the ones who decide what we can or cannot hear, not a centralized body or corporation?

Social Media and Cable News: Platforms or Gatekeepers?

Social media was once hailed as the bastion of free speech. It allowed ordinary individuals to share their thoughts, advocate for causes, and hold the powerful accountable. However, over the years, major platforms like Twitter (now X), Facebook, and YouTube have become gatekeepers rather than facilitators of free expression.

Algorithms favor certain ideologies, while alternative viewpoints—especially those with a more conservative or constitutional slant—are shadow-banned, demonetized, or outright censored.

Does this not resemble the tactics of monarchies, communistic or fascist regimes that control what their citizens can see and hear?

Shouldn’t a true democracy allow the free flow of ideas, even if those ideas challenge the status quo?

Social Media Influencers: Fighters for Freedom or Puppets of Censorship?

Many social media influencers, especially those aligned with constitutional values, have become modern-day warriors for free speech. Yet, they face intense backlash, censorship, and de-platforming for voicing opinions that challenge globalist or left-leaning narratives.

How many times have we seen influential voices banned simply for questioning government policies, election results, or health mandates?

Isn’t it concerning that only a select group of elites can decide what is “acceptable” discourse?

While some influencers fall in line with these restrictive policies, others have emerged as champions for free speech, using their platforms to resist censorship and uphold constitutional rights. The question is: Will we support these voices, or will we allow them to be drowned out by corporate and governmental censorship?

The Dangers of Socialism, Communism, and Fascism: A Threat to Free Speech

At the heart of socialism, communism, and fascism lies a common tactic—control over speech. These ideologies have historically sought to suppress dissent, limit expression, and create a monolithic narrative that favors those in power.

Look no further than authoritarian regimes past and present, where dissenters are imprisoned, media is state-controlled, and free speech is criminalized. Can we really ignore the striking similarities between these oppressive ideologies and the current state of political discourse in America?

Is the suppression of speech today not a precursor to more draconian measures tomorrow?

Should we not fight to preserve the right to freely express political, social, and economic ideas?
