Going to show here but i really hope it it teaches you something and you’ve learned something about the gadsden flag it’s history where it came from what it actually means versus how the media skews it thanks for watching and uh here’s the video this is the history of the gadsden flag
Also known as the don’t tread on me flag the gadsden flag has become a symbol for many individuals and groups a symbol that represents a wide array of meanings to those who wave it for most it represents the motto located at the bottom of the flag that says
Don’t tread on me this motto has been interpreted to mean different things to those who read it and try and understand it some believe that it means leave me alone and i’ll leave you alone i’ve heard others say the meaning i will attack if you attack however it is interpreted
It was more than a flag and a motto it was a symbol of america and her colonies i will read a quote later from benjamin franklin about how he interpreted the flag and its meetings today the media and even politicians have forgotten its origins and true meanings
The media after recent events have even related this flag to terrorism as a side note the british at the time said the same thing of this flag the media and politicians have said this flag represents racism terrorism and have even tried to use it as an insult to the intelligence
Of those who wave it claiming it to be a redneck flag as if redneck was a derogatory term look up the history of the term redneck you may be surprised nonetheless these folks in the media and the government should do their research before making such claims i think benjamin
Franklin described the flag in its snake symbol best in his letter to the pennsylvania journal in 1775 and here’s some quotes from that letter quote i observed on one of the drums belonging to the marines now raising there was painted a rattlesnake with this modest motto
Under it don’t tread on me as i know it is custom to have some device on the arms of every country i suppose this may have been intended for the arms of america end quote he continues to say quote the rattlesnake has found no other quarter of the world besides america
She never begins an attack nor when once engaged ever surrenders she is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage she never wounds till she has generously given notice even to her enemy and cautioned him against the danger of trading on her he goes on to say quote i confessed i
Was holy at a loss what to make of the rattles till i went back and counted them and found them just 13 exactly the number of colonies united in america and i recollected too that this was the only part of the snake which increased some numbers he continues to say tis curious
And amazing to observe how distinct and independent of each other the rattles of this animal are and yet how firmly they are united together so as never to be separated but by breaking them into pieces one of those rattles singly is incapable of producing sound but the ringing of thirteen together is
Sufficient to alarm the boldest man living end quote that was benjamin franklin that was his little letter to the pennsylvania journal the drums with the coiled rattlesnakes on them that were witnessed by franklin were being held by some of the first enlisted marines of the continental navy
The navy consisted of only four ships at this time the first enlisted marines who signed up in philadelphia won some of the most important battles of the revolution after their first mission which was to obtain guns and ammo from a british ship that was completed successfully the
Gadsden flag was flown on the mast of the ship named alfred most people know the flag by its creator christopher gadsden though some still call it the hopkins flag for its association to essa hopkins christopher gadsden was a true patriot and a former leader of the sons of liberty eventually appointed colonel
Of the continental army he was also one of three men appointed to outfit the ships of the continental navy he appointed essec hopkins as commander-in-chief of the navy he gave the flag to hopkins to be used on his ship the alfred as a personal standard which after time
Was used on other naval ships even to this day it is said that john paul jones raised the flag for the first time on the alfred captain by hopkins those in witness called it the hopkins flag even though it was given to hopkins by gadsden to be his personal standard gadsden also
Gave the flag to the congress at charleston and had it recorded in the congressional journals of south carolina here’s a quote from the congressional journals of south carolina quote colonel gadsden presented to the congress an elegant standard such as is to be used by the commander-in-chief of the american navy
Being a yellow field with a lively representation of a rattlesnake in the middle in the attitude of going to strike and these words underneath don’t tread on me end quote and that’s from the the congressional journals of south carolina this record has given credit to gadsden which has influenced over time
The name of the don’t tread on me flag known as the gadsden flag the snake symbol later in 1775 began showing up on paper money uniforms drums and his flags and banners used by both the marines and the american navy this symbol is still in use today
Although the flag has been trampled on by the media who perverts its meanings and somehow degrades its historical significance there is no disputing the truths in history which show us that the flag was an integral part of the creation of our nation there is no disputing the true
Nature of the flag to stand for nothing more than unity bravery justice and peace to those who wish peace i hope this has helped you understand the true meanings of the historical significance of this flag god bless the united states of america and all who have sacrificed so much
