the internet like electricity is something that’s become a part of our everyday lives and when you’re in an area with no cell phone reception especially way out in the woods it’s even more difficult to get access to the internet and that’s where this comes in this is the starlink mini and today we’re going to be setting it up testing it out going over some of the pros and cons as well as the cost the starlink min is a new product from the starlink satellite internet line starlink mini is a compact portable kit that can easily fit in a backpack designed to provide high-speed low latency internet on the- go it includes a built-in Wi-Fi router lower power consumption DC power input and Max download speeds over 100 megabits per [Music] second it comes with this adjustable stand and also Al a pull mount the power cord is about 50 ft long and it’s super easy to set up so now that you know what comes with the starlink mini let’s jump right to it and start testing it out so a pretty big issue that we have on the ranch is we have a ton of gigantic pine trees so it’s always a little bit challenging to find a good spot to set it up but that’s what we’re going to be doing next figure out a good spot temporarily to set it up and test it out so out here on our storage container is probably the best spot where we have the most access to the sky so we’re going to set it up here and test it out see what it’s like adjust it if we need to so to set up the starlink mini was really simple we basically just set it up on the built-in stand and then connected to the starlink app we’re using this portable power station from voman to power the starlink mini this is a really great off-grid mobile setup because you can connect some solar panels to the power station and be totally off the [Music] grid so we got the starlink mini plugged in we have a little power station right here running it it’s running it at about 40ish watts and now we’re going to go on the starlink app and set it up even further later in the video I will go over the cost of the starlink mini and stay tuned to see what what kind of download and upload speeds we get from multiple [Music] locations the app walks you through this setup and makes it really easy to get everything started so we basically just followed the promps and within a few minutes it was ready to go [Music] now that we got everything set up we’re going to run a few speed tests to see what we’re working [Music] with so we just ran the first test and it was it worked pretty well look at that and also considering that we have some obstructions going on right here so pretty successful first test so the first tests are working incredibly well super happy with the speed so far it’s definitely giving us some faster speeds than they said there would be so this is always amazing so now we’re going to take our computer and run some speed tests with the computer from different areas of our property so just for fun we’ll try to establish a connection between the Starling mini and the computer knowing that we are in an insulated container that should block like most of the frequency but we’ll still [Music] try this is really impressive that work pretty well the test uh even inside the container so one thing that’s a little bit challenging for us sometimes is to get internet in our container house sometimes it works well sometimes it doesn’t depending on where we are in relation to the router so we’re going to head into the house and test it from there and see what the speeds are like so far we’re really impressed with it the true test will be when we take it to some areas where we have no self reception nothing and see what it’s like there so stay tuned for that but first let’s test it in the house so as you can see the starlink mini is sitting on top of the container over there and this is where my computer is so this is where we’re going to be running the speed test so we’re about I would guess maybe 60 ft away and we are going to run some tests from inside the house something to keep in mind is we do have a little bit of obstructions where the starlink mini is placed right now and that does affect the overall service but wait until you see the service we get once we hit the road coming up next so far it’s really easy to set it up just like we just have to plug it use the app to find Like An Open Sky and uh the result are really good for what it is like this so we already have the standard starlink and now we’re going to take you guys along with us and show you why we decided to get the starlink mini and what we’re going to use it for so let’s roll the starlink internet service is perfect for people who don’t have access to any kind of Internet besides satellite internet and it’s ideal for getting internet in areas that have no cell reception we’re going to take the starlink mini on the road with us and see what it’s like to set up and see what kind of service we get W not back when we were doing van life and even now when we take road trips it’s really hard to get access to Internet once you get into the more remote areas of the US this is the main reason why we access to the internet so I am going to hang out periodically I’m going to do a speed test to see if it changes at all or if it’s just kind of constant the speed and report back after I’m done working so far we’re really impressed with the starlink mini and it is just going to be the perfect accessory for when we hit the road all of our road trips when we travel in our ambulance camper or we’re out somewhere where there’s no service no Internet it’s just going to be the perfect accessory for those situations so time to get some work done and check back in with you in a little [Music] bit so the reason why the service is so much better where we are right now compared to our property is because there are basically no obstructions blocking the connection and like you guys saw at our place we have a lot of super tall trees so just something to keep in mind so I just finished working on the computer the starlink mini worked incredibly well I had zero Cuts in the internet so that was incredible the speed was generally consistent but there was a few times that it went super fast but I would say like on average it was around 60 megabits per second for the speed and overall it has been amazing and it worked awesome so I am super super happy to be able to have internet in areas that are really far off the grid that’s a hug huge game Cher for us so next up we are going to take a little break stream some videos see if the internet can keep up with streaming a video and let you guys know how it is so we just set up a little show on my iPad right here and we are just going to chill and watch it and see what the service is like if we have any Cuts or if it just plays straight through the show St tuned [Music] so we were just able to watch an entire episode like 1 hour long on Amazon Prime with zero interruptions which is amazing so happy about that the speeds were pretty consistent and it’s just another amazing way you can use the starlink mini now we are going to go deep in the forest and show you guys what it’s like to try and use the Starling L if you have a bunch of obstructions in the sky such as a bunch of trees or buildings Etc so let’s hop back in the ambulance and get lost in the woods and try to use the starlink mini deep in the forest on so we just drove out literally into the middle of the forest we are like so deep in the woods right now and I thought since the sky is mostly full of trees there’s not a lot of openings just this opening where we are right now basically I predicted that the internet wouldn’t work very well and man I was wrong finally it’s working pretty well and I’m actually really surprised about that because we have a very very narrow opening of sky so this is great with that being said if there was no opening like if we were totally under the trees I don’t think it would work because it wouldn’t be able to connect to the Stars it wouldn’t be able to link to the stars but anyways it’s just still great that even if you have kind of like a limited view of the sky that it still works and it works really well so overall super happy with that high high high high [Music] [Music] so you work way better than the standard gen one like it’s day and night almost do you have any uh opinions what do you think now it’s time to go over the overall cost here is the current pricing for all starlink services as you can see they have several options based off if you want mobile internet or if you’re going to be in a fixed location no matter what plan you choose the hardware is a one-time purchase and the monthly fees range from $120 a month to up to $55,000 a month one thing to note is that the starlink mini is limited to 50 GB of service a month and if you go over the limit it’s going to cost you extra last time I checked it was about $1 per gigabyte once you’re over the limit so overall this is a great option if you want mobile satellite internet and so far we’ve had a great experience with it I love that it’s super small and portable and that it’s really easy and simple to set up we’ll see how the service works with time and hopefully things just continue to improve don’t forget if you sign up through the
